Luminary Global CEO Joins Board of the John Morroni Legacy Foundation

St. Petersburg, FL — Luminary Global is proud to announce that its Founder & CEO, Valerie Lavin, has joined the Board of Directors for the John Morroni Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the heroism and service of law enforcement officers and first responders throughout Pinellas County.

The foundation’s mission is rooted in a tragedy that changed both policy and perspective.

In 1994, 28-year-old Belleair police officer Jeffery Tackett was killed in the line of duty while responding alone to a call. The loss sent shockwaves through the community and deeply impacted then-State Representative John Morroni.

Determined to prevent similar tragedies, Morroni championed legislation requiring law enforcement officers to have backup support when responding to potentially dangerous situations, helping establish stronger safety protocols for officers across Florida, especially in communities with smaller protective forces.

But he believed legislation alone wasn’t enough.

In 1995, Morroni created the Annual Law Enforcement & First Responder Appreciation Dinner to ensure that the bravery, sacrifice, and humanity of first responders would never go unnoticed. What began as a single evening of recognition has grown into a 30-year tradition, and ultimately, the founding of the foundation that now carries his legacy forward.

For three decades, the foundation has honored extraordinary acts of courage, bringing together community leaders, agencies, and citizens to recognize the real stories behind the badge.

“The John Morroni Legacy Foundation represents the very best of our community,” said Lavin. “The stories shared each year are powerful and emotional. To hear what these heroes endure—and the split-second decisions they make to protect and defend the citizens of Pinellas County—is, at times, unimaginable. These men and women see the worst in humanity. It is heart-wrenching that they must step out of uniform, set aside what they have witnessed, be present for their families, and then wake up to do it all over again. The level of compartmentalization required is extraordinary and something only a few Americans are willing to endure. It is an honor to support a mission that ensures these acts of service are appreciated and never forgotten.”

This leadership opportunity reflects Luminary’s continued commitment to preparedness, protection, and those on the front lines. As a company serving emergency responders, tactical professionals, and preparedness-focused communities, Luminary is uniquely aligned with the foundation’s purpose.

The 30th Anniversary of the Annual Awards Dinner will take place on June 13 and is expected to draw strong community and business support.
