Valerie Lavin Named 2019 Gasparilla Community Hero

Tampa, FL – January 25, 2019 – Valerie Ellis Lavin, retired U.S. Army First Sergeant and Founder/CEO of Luminary Global, has been named the Community Hero for the 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Gasparilla Pirate Fest and Gasparilla Parade of Pirates.

Selected by title sponsor Seminole Hard Rock Casino, the honor recognizes an individual in the Tampa Bay area who exemplifies courage, strength, and self-sacrifice in service to others. Ms. Lavin was chosen for her 21 years of U.S. Army service—where she earned the Bronze Star for bravery in combat and led a company with all members returning home alive—plus her ongoing community contributions, including helping veterans start businesses, find jobs, and transition to civilian life.

As CEO of Luminary Global (a veteran-owned emergency preparedness and medical staffing company), she supports veterans through employment opportunities. Through her nonprofit, she assists veterans in discovering their entrepreneurial mindset, validating business ideas, and hiring fellow veterans.
