A disaster rarely gives you time to gather supplies. The Guardian 4 Person Necessity Survival Kit packs the basics a family of four needs for the first 72 hours into one grab-and-go kit: food and water with a 5-year shelf life, a radio, a flashlight that never needs batteries, and warmth, shelter and hygiene supplies. Keep it in a closet or the trunk, and it is ready when the power goes out or the evacuation order comes.

Why it works:

  • Food and water for three days: Four 3,600-calorie food bars and twenty-four 4 oz water pouches, all with a 5-year shelf life, plus 40 water purification tablets (each treats 1 liter) and four 1-liter hydration bags with straws.
  • Light and news without hunting for batteries: A hand rechargeable flashlight that never needs batteries and an AM/FM radio with batteries included.
  • Warmth and weather protection: 4 emergency blankets, 4 emergency ponchos and 4 hand and body warmers.
  • First aid and hygiene: A 44-piece first aid kit, 36 wet wipes, 4 packs of pocket tissues and 12 disposable face masks.
  • Four ways to carry it: Choose a backpack, wheeled duffel, dry bag or bucket with lid to fit where you store it.
