The Rothco Tri-Fold Shovel earns its place in the pack the first time camp needs a fire pit dug or a path cleared of snow. Open, it extends to 24 inches, giving you real leverage to move dirt without fighting the tool.

When the work is done, its 3-section design folds down to just 9 inches and slips into a backpack or rucksack. A steel build and a 5.5 inch wide digging surface mean it is ready for the next site, the next trip and the next job.

Why it works:

  • Leverage for real digging: A longer reach lets you put your weight behind each stroke, and this shovel extends to 24 inches long.
  • Packs small between jobs: It stays out of the way until camp needs it, folding down to just 9 inches.
  • A broad digging surface: Each scoop moves a useful amount of ground, with a blade that measures 5.5 inches wide.
  • Ready for camp chores: One tool covers the common tasks at a site: creating fire pits, clearing snow and digging cat holes.
  • Built for the wilderness: Steel construction gives you a rugged tool for repeated use away from the trailhead.

Who it's built for:

For campers and outdoor enthusiasts who want a full-length digging tool that rides in a backpack. It also serves military and active-duty personnel who keep a compact shovel in the rucksack.

  • Vehicle Recovery Drivers and overlanders free a stuck vehicle with the leverage of a steel blade. The reinforced locking collar holds the head steady under a hard load.
  • Camping & Digging Campers dig a fire pit, trench a tent, or clear a site with a compact folding shovel. The serrated edge cuts through roots and thick brush on the way.
  • Survival & Emergency Kit Prepared users pack a collapsible E-tool in a vehicle or bug-out kit for digging and recovery. The tri-fold body stows on a MOLLE belt or in a pack until needed.
  • Brush & Root Clearing Outdoor users cut through roots and brush with the sharpened serrated edge on one side of the blade. The D-style grip gives control for chopping and prying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit in my backpack?▸

Yes. It folds down to 9 inches, a size made to fit into a backpack or rucksack, and opens back up to 24 inches when you need to dig.

Is a cover included?▸

A cover is included only when you choose the With Cover option. The Without Cover option is the shovel alone.

How is it different from the Deluxe Tri-Fold Shovel?▸

Pick the Tri-Fold Shovel for 24 inches extended, 9 inches folded and 5.5 inches wide. Pick the Deluxe Tri-Fold Shovel if you want a head that adjusts for scooping or spearing and an edge for cutting through roots. Both are steel, fold into 3 sections and are sold with or without a cover.
