Quick Overview

The Ambu Res-Cue Mask CPR Kit is a barrier rescue ventilation system used by trained first responders, law enforcement, and CPR-certified operators to deliver safe, effective rescue breaths to an unresponsive, non-breathing casualty while maintaining full Body Substance Isolation.

The kit provides a complete deployment package built around the Ambu Res-Cue Mask, a transparent dome mask with a soft vinyl cuff that conforms to the casualty's facial contours to achieve an airtight seal. The integrated one-way valve with filter is the critical life-safety component, permitting the rescuer's exhaled air to enter the casualty while blocking the casualty's exhaled air, aerosolized pathogens, and bodily fluids from reaching the operator. A standard 22mm oxygen inlet port allows connection to a regulated supplemental oxygen source when authorized personnel are equipped for advanced airway support.

Field readiness is maintained through the durable hard polymer carrying case, which protects all components from crush damage, deformation, and contamination during transport in a duty bag, vehicle, or first aid station. The kit includes nitrile exam gloves that must be donned before any contact with the casualty, and two alcohol prep wipes for post-incident hand decontamination. All components are single-use on a live casualty and must be disposed of as biohazardous waste following deployment.

Operator protocol follows a six-step sequence: scene safety and BSI establishment, equipment preparation, airway opening, mask application using the C-E hand technique, rescue ventilation delivery, and advanced options including head strap application and supplemental oxygen administration when authorized. The transparent dome enables continuous visual monitoring for chest rise, airway obstruction, regurgitation, and cyanosis throughout resuscitation.

Field Application Steps

1. ESTABLISH SCENE SAFETY AND DON PPE: Confirm the scene is safe for operations before approaching the casualty. Open the hard case immediately, remove the nitrile exam gloves, and don them before making any physical contact with the casualty or equipment.

2. PREPARE THE MASK FOR DEPLOYMENT: Remove the pre-assembled mask from the case. Visually confirm the one-way valve is securely seated in the mask dome before application.

3. POSITION THE CASUALTY AND OPEN THE AIRWAY: Place the casualty supine on a firm surface. Open the airway using the Head-Tilt/Chin-Lift maneuver, or the Jaw-Thrust maneuver if spinal injury is suspected.

4. APPLY THE MASK AND ACHIEVE AN AIRTIGHT SEAL: For an adult or child, position the apex (narrow end) over the bridge of the nose with the wider base seated in the groove between the lower lip and chin. For an infant, rotate the mask 180 degrees so the wider base covers the nose and mouth. Apply firm, even downward pressure using the C-E technique: thumbs and index fingers form a C over the dome, remaining fingers grip the casualty's mandible.

5. DELIVER RESCUE VENTILATIONS: While maintaining the mask seal and airway position, deliver one rescue breath through the one-way valve over 1 second per current CPR guidelines. Watch for visible chest rise through the transparent dome. If the chest does not rise, re-adjust head position and mask seal before attempting a second breath. Do not delay chest compressions.

6. APPLY HEAD STRAP IF HANDS-FREE OPERATION IS REQUIRED: Feed the elastic strap through the two slots on the sides of the mask and secure it around the back of the casualty's head. Ensure the strap is tight enough to maintain the seal without displacing the mask.

7. ADMINISTER SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN IF AUTHORIZED AND EQUIPPED: Remove the port cover from the 22mm O2 inlet on the side of the mask dome. Connect an oxygen line from a regulated oxygen source to the inlet. Set the flow rate in accordance with your service's medical protocols. Only perform this step if specifically trained, authorized, and operating under established medical protocols.

8. CONDUCT POST-INCIDENT PROCEDURES: After a live incident, treat the entire kit, including the mask, valve, gloves, and wipes, as biohazardous waste and dispose of it in accordance with applicable local, state, or federal regulations. Immediately requisition a replacement unit to restore operational-ready status.
