Quick Overview

Chlor-Floc Military Water Purification Powder is a dual-action chemical treatment system used by military personnel, first responders, and disaster operators to produce potable water from biologically contaminated, high-turbidity sources when established water infrastructure is unavailable.

The system works through two simultaneous mechanisms: flocculation and chemical disinfection. Flocculants and coagulants clump suspended silt, clay, and organic matter into visible masses that settle to the bottom of the container. Sodium Dichloro-s-Triazinetrione Dihydrate, a chlorine-releasing biocide, neutralizes viruses, bacteria, and Giardia. One 600mg packet treats exactly one liter of fresh water, making precise volume measurement a critical readiness factor during field deployment.

The treatment protocol requires a confirmed 60-second shake, a 10 to 15 minute settling period, careful decanting through a straining cloth, and a mandatory 30-minute chlorine contact time before consumption. In cold weather operations below 4 degrees Celsius, the protocol calls for two packets per liter and a 60-minute final contact period to compensate for reduced chemical reaction rates. A faint chlorine odor after contact time is a positive indicator of successful disinfection.

Operators must understand the defined scope of this capability. Chlor-Floc addresses biological and physical contamination only. It does not remove pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, fuels, or salt. If chemical contamination is suspected, this system is not an appropriate treatment method. Packets carry a 3-year shelf life and must be inspected for damage or moisture exposure before inclusion in any kit or field loadout.

Field Application Steps

1. ASSESS THE WATER SOURCE: Select the clearest available moving water. Avoid stagnant pools, water with a visible chemical or oil sheen, and sources near agricultural runoff or industrial waste. Collect from slightly below the surface to avoid surface scum and bottom sediment.

2. COLLECT ONE LITER OF SOURCE WATER: Fill the primary mixing container to the one-liter mark (approximately 1.1 quarts). Accuracy to one liter is critical for correct chemical concentration. If the container is unmarked, use your best calibrated judgment.

3. INTRODUCE THE CHLOR-FLOC POWDER: Tear open one 600mg Chlor-Floc packet and add the entire contents to the water in the primary container. Do not use partial packets. In cold weather operations below 4 degrees Celsius, use two packets per liter.

4. SECURE AND AGITATE: Tighten the lid and shake the container vigorously and continuously for 60 seconds. This fully dissolves the powder and activates both the flocculant and biocide agents.

5. ALLOW SETTLING: Place the container on a level surface and leave it completely undisturbed for 10 to 15 minutes. Observe visible floc masses clumping and sinking to form a distinct sediment layer. Water above the sediment layer should appear noticeably clearer. This is your visual confirmation that the agents are working.

6. PREPARE FOR DECANTING: Ready the secondary clean container. Drape a clean straining cloth, such as a t-shirt, bandana, or shemagh, over the opening of the secondary container to act as a coarse filter.

7. DECANT CAREFULLY: Slowly and steadily pour water from the upper portion of the primary container through the cloth into the secondary container. Do not tilt aggressively or disturb the sediment layer at the bottom. Stop pouring before sediment begins to transfer.

8. EXECUTE MANDATORY CONTACT TIME: Seal the secondary container and let it stand for 30 minutes without disturbance. This is the required contact period for chlorine to fully neutralize remaining biological pathogens. In cold weather operations below 4 degrees Celsius, extend this contact time to 60 minutes. Do not consume the water before this period has fully elapsed.

9. CONFIRM TREATMENT AND CLEAR EQUIPMENT: After the contact period, a faint chlorine odor confirms successful disinfection. Rinse the primary mixing container with a small amount of the treated water before its next use to prevent cross-contamination of future batches.
