Quick Overview

The Elite First Aid 3-Inch Elastic Self-Adhesive Bandage is a cohesive wrap used by law enforcement, military personnel, and first responders to secure primary dressings, immobilize splints, and apply compression to sprains and strains during field operations.

This bandage is a secondary, non-sterile overwrap, meaning it must never contact an open wound directly. A sterile primary dressing such as a gauze pad or trauma dressing must be placed on the wound first. The cohesive fabric bonds aggressively to itself without adhering to skin, hair, or clothing, enabling rapid and secure deployment without clips, pins, or tape. Its low-profile black coloration supports tactical operations where visual signature management is a priority.

Tension discipline is the most critical operator skill required for safe application. Excessive tension causes the elastic material to function as a constricting band, impeding blood flow and risking ischemic injury. Immediately following application, assess Circulation, Sensation, and Motor function in the extremity distal to the wrap. If capillary refill exceeds two seconds, the patient reports numbness or tingling, or finger movement is compromised, remove and reapply with reduced tension without delay.

This is a single-use, disposable item. Cohesive properties and elasticity are not reliable after the initial application, and the wrap must be discarded after use. Pre-deployment inspection of each individually wrapped roll confirms packaging integrity before the roll is staged in any personal or team kit. Storage in a temperature-controlled, dry environment away from direct sunlight, UV radiation, and extreme temperatures preserves readiness until deployment.

Field Application Steps

1. PREPARATION AND EXPOSURE: Confirm the sterile primary dressing is correctly placed and covers the entire wound before opening the cohesive wrap. Tear the packaging at the designated notch to deploy the roll.

2. ANCHOR POINT PLACEMENT: Place the free end of the wrap distal to the primary dressing, meaning below it toward the hand. Complete one full revolution around the limb with zero tension applied to establish a secure anchor.

3. WRAPPING TECHNIQUE: Wrap distal-to-proximal, advancing from the hand toward the elbow. Overlap each previous layer by approximately 50 percent with every revolution to ensure even pressure distribution and no gaps in coverage.

4. TENSION CONTROL: Apply snug, not tight, tension when securing a dressing over a wound. When applying compression for a sprain or strain, maintain firm and consistent stretch throughout the entire wrap sequence.

5. TERMINATION AND SECUREMENT: Once the primary dressing is covered with sufficient margin on all sides, cut or tear the wrap from the roll. Press the loose end firmly against the underlying wrap layer and hold for 3 to 5 seconds to bond without clips or tape.

6. POST-APPLICATION CSM ASSESSMENT: Immediately assess Circulation, Sensation, and Motor function in the extremity distal to the wrap. Check capillary refill in the nail beds, which should return in under two seconds, ask the patient about numbness or tingling, and instruct the patient to move their fingers.

7. COMPROMISE RESPONSE: If any CSM indicator is abnormal, the wrap is too tight. Loosen or remove and reapply immediately with reduced tension. Do not delay intervention if circulation, sensation, or motor function is impaired.
