Quick Overview

The Elite First Aid Tourni-Kit is a professional-grade hemorrhage control system designed for the temporary occlusion of life-threatening extremity bleeding, deployed by operators, military personnel, and prepared civilians when direct pressure fails to control arterial or traumatic blood loss.

The kit centers on the Quick-Tight Windlass Tourniquet, which uses a circumferential nylon strap, a D-Clasp buckle for one-handed routing, and a high-strength polymer windlass rod to generate limb-occluding pressure. A C-shaped windlass clip locks the rod under tension, while a dedicated time strap provides a marked surface for documenting application time in 24-hour format, critical data for receiving medical personnel. The D-Clasp buckle design allows the device to wrap around an entrapped limb rather than requiring a slide-on application from the hand or foot.

Deployment protocol requires positioning the strap 2 to 3 inches proximal to the wound, removing all slack before engaging the windlass, and twisting until pulsatile flow ceases and the distal pulse is absent. Once applied, the tourniquet must not be loosened or removed in the field. Removal is performed exclusively by qualified medical professionals in a clinical setting, as premature removal carries a risk of rapid exsanguination.

Readiness sustainment requires monthly inspection of all components, including the nylon strap for UV degradation and fraying, plastic components for cracks or deformation, and the internal elastic retention strap for loss of tension. A tourniquet used in a real-world bleeding event or subjected to repeated full-torque training cycles must be removed from service and replaced immediately.

Field Application Steps

1. MOUNT AND STAGE THE HOLDER: Attach the MOLLE holder to a location accessible by both hands, such as the front of a plate carrier or the support-side of a duty belt. Insert the folded tourniquet, confirm it is secured by the internal elastic retention strap, close the hook-and-loop flaps, and verify the TQ identification patch is visible.

2. ASSESS THE SCENE AND PROTECT YOURSELF: Confirm the immediate threat is neutralized before rendering aid. Don Body Substance Isolation gloves if available before making contact with the casualty.

3. EXPOSE THE WOUND: Cut away or remove clothing over the injured limb to visually confirm the bleed source and ensure the tourniquet will apply over a uniform surface, not over a jacket or bulky pocket items.

4. DEPLOY THE TOURNIQUET: Grasp the top flap of the MOLLE holder and pull firmly to open. With the same motion, grasp the tourniquet body and pull it free from the internal elastic retention strap.

5. POSITION THE STRAP: Place the circumferential strap approximately 2 to 3 inches proximal to the wound, meaning closer to the torso. Never place the tourniquet over a joint or over any pocket containing bulky items.

6. ROUTE AND TIGHTEN THE STRAP: Feed the strap tip through the D-Clasp buckle and pull the running end aggressively until all slack is fully eliminated before touching the windlass rod. Secure the strap back on itself.

7. ENGAGE THE WINDLASS: Twist the windlass rod until bleeding stops completely. For arterial bleeding, continue twisting until pulsatile flow ceases and the distal pulse is absent.

8. LOCK THE WINDLASS: Seat the windlass rod fully into one side of the windlass clip. Confirm the rod is fully seated and will not unwind under pressure.

9. SECURE THE TIME STRAP: Bring the white time strap over the top of the locked windlass rod and through the clip, securing it firmly to its hook-and-loop surface to provide secondary rod retention.

10. DOCUMENT TIME OF APPLICATION: Write the time of application in 24-hour format on the time strap using a permanent marker. Announce aloud: "Tourniquet applied at [TIME]."

11. REASSESS FOR HEMORRHAGE CONTROL: Continuously monitor for re-bleeding. If bleeding is not controlled, verify that all strap slack was eliminated prior to windlass engagement. If bleeding persists, apply a second tourniquet directly above and touching the first.
