Quick Overview

The EVAC Systems Charlotte Pocket Pack Kit is a personal last-resort bailout system designed for emergency egress from elevated IDLH environments, restricted to certified Fire-Rescue, SWAT, and Urban SAR personnel who require a field-ready self-rescue capability when all conventional egress is compromised.

The Charlotte Pocket Pack is built around a 50-foot Sterling FireTech2 rope constructed from Technora/Aramid fiber, providing high tensile strength and superior heat resistance compared to standard nylon. This rope length defines an absolute operational ceiling of approximately the 4th or 5th story of a standard structure. The system is rated for single-operator self-rescue only and is not designed or approved for rescuing a second person under any circumstances.

The kit's five core components work as an integrated system: the Charlotte Pocket Bag for compact turnout-pocket deployment, the Lightning GT gated hook for structural anchoring, the FireTech2 rope as the lifeline, the Sterling FCX descender with auto-lock capability for controlled descent, and the SafeD 3-stage auto-lock carabiner as the critical connection to a rated Class II or Class III life-safety harness. The FCX descender's auto-lock engages automatically when the operator releases the handle, whether intentionally or as a panic response, halting descent without additional input.

Readiness protocol requires inspection at the start of every shift, after each training or live deployment, and following any exposure event. If any single component fails inspection, the entire kit is removed from service immediately. Following a live bailout or shock-load event, all components are retired without exception, per the system's one-time live use standard.

Field Application Steps

1. ACCESS AND CONNECT: Retrieve the Charlotte Pocket Pack from your turnout pant pocket from a position of relative safety, staying low on the floor. Immediately attach the SafeD carabiner to the rated D-ring on your life-safety harness, then verbally and physically confirm the gate is fully closed and locked before proceeding.

2. IDENTIFY AND SET ANCHOR: Identify a substantial load-bearing anchor point, prioritizing a structural member deep within the room over a window sill anchor when possible. Clear the window of glass and debris, then set the Lightning GT hook firmly onto the selected anchor, ensuring the rope's line of pull will secure the hook rather than dislodge it.

3. CONFIRM ANCHOR INTEGRITY: Visually and physically verify the anchor is fully seated and will hold static and dynamic load. Do not proceed to rope deployment until anchor security is confirmed.

4. DEPLOY ROPE: Open the main compartment of the Charlotte Pocket Bag and drop or throw the bag with the rope out the window. Confirm the descent path is clear of obstructions including wires and fire below, then verify the full 50-foot rope has paid out without tangling.

5. LOAD THE SYSTEM: Maintain control of the operator-side rope through the FCX descender and move to the window sill or exit point. Before committing full body weight, sit back into the harness to load the system, and pause to feel the rope and anchor take tension while looking and listening for any signs of anchor failure.

6. EXECUTE CONTROLLED DESCENT: Exit the structure feet-first in a controlled orientation. Squeeze the FCX descender handle to initiate movement, modulating speed by varying grip pressure, with less pressure producing faster descent.

7. STOP AND SCAN AS NEEDED: To halt descent at any point, fully release the FCX handle to engage the auto-lock feature. Use your feet to fend off the wall, avoid obstacles, and scan below continuously for hazards throughout the descent.

8. POST-USE PROTOCOL: Following any live bailout or shock-load event, immediately remove all components from service, tag the kit, and report it for replacement. No component from a live-deployed kit is returned to rotation under any circumstances.
