Quick Overview

The EVAC Providence Style RIT Rope Bag is a compact, purpose-built search line carrier designed for Rapid Intervention Team operators and SAR personnel who need rapid, snag-resistant rope deployment in zero-visibility structural firefighting environments.

The bag is dimensionally optimized for 200 feet of 6.8mm to 7.5mm small-diameter rope, constructed from 1000D Cordura Nylon in a stable 6.5" x 6.5" x 10.5" profile. This compact square form prevents tipping during rope payout and minimizes snag hazard when moving through confined residential spaces such as narrow hallways, cluttered rooms, and attics. The Smart-Flap top secures the line during transit and flips fully open during deployment to create an unobstructed, friction-free feed.

The carriage and release system is built around operator survivability. A detachable shoulder strap allows hands-free movement while crawling in full turnout gear and SCBA. Dual chrome seatbelt buckles provide redundant, gloved-hand-accessible quick-release from either side, enabling the operator to instantly shed the entire bag if entangled without disturbing the search line itself. The base grommet and D-ring serve as the primary anchor connection, securing the bag to a fixed exterior point and establishing it as the fixed origin of the search line.

This carrier is a component system, not a life-safety device. The life-safety rating of the deployment system is determined solely by the rope loaded within it. All rope inspection and use protocols must comply with NFPA standards, department policy, and manufacturer guidelines.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT VERIFICATION: Confirm rope type and length, specifically 200 ft of 6.8mm to 7.5mm line. Verify the anchor-end tie-off is secured and the working-end is accessible at the top of the bag.

2. DON THE CARRIER: Sling the bag cross-body or over the shoulder, adjusting the strap to fit over full turnout gear and SCBA. Confirm both seatbelt buckles are clear and accessible for gloved-hand operation before entry.

3. ESTABLISH THE ANCHOR POINT: Identify a substantial, immovable anchor point outside the hazard zone. Secure the base D-ring to that anchor using a carabiner or webbing, then verbally confirm the anchor with your team.

4. PREPARE FOR DEPLOYMENT: Open the Smart-Flap fully to create an unobstructed rope feed. Set the bag on its stable base on the floor at the entry point. The high-visibility bag color now marks the egress origin for the entire team.

5. ADVANCE AND PAY OUT THE LINE: Move into the structure as a team while the line pays out from the anchored bag. Maintain minimal slack in the line to prevent entanglement loops that could compromise following team members.

6. EXECUTE EMERGENCY RELEASE IF REQUIRED: If the bag or strap becomes entangled and cannot be cleared by normal means, identify the most accessible seatbelt buckle and depress it to instantly shed the entire carrier. The search line remains intact and in place for orientation and egress.

7. POST-MISSION INSPECTION: Inspect the Cordura fabric for cuts, abrasions, melting, or thermal damage, and examine all seams, strap attachment points, and the base D-ring area. Manually actuate both seatbelt buckles to confirm they lock and release cleanly, and inspect the D-ring for deformation or cracking.

8. REPACK FOR NEXT DEPLOYMENT: Secure the anchor-end through the base grommet and tie a Figure-8 on a Bight to the external D-ring. Stuff the rope into the bag, do not coil it, as stuffing creates random layering that prevents loops and knots during rapid payout. Pack firmly, place the working-end at the top, and close the Smart-Flap.

9. STORE THE SYSTEM: Place the fully packed bag in a designated, climate-controlled apparatus compartment, protected from UV light, chemical contamination, and physical damage until next deployment.
