Quick Overview

The EVAC Systems Bunker Pack is a purpose-built structural firefighting PPE transport system used by firefighters, rovers, and volunteer personnel to move a complete turnout ensemble, including coat, pants, helmet, and boots, safely and hands-free across any operational environment.

The pack is constructed on a 1,000 Denier Cordura Nylon chassis, providing professional-grade resistance to abrasion, punctures, and tearing on concrete floors, non-skid surfaces, and apparatus bays. Dual padded shoulder straps distribute loads exceeding 50 pounds across the back and core, enabling hands-free deployment through doorways, stairwells, and personnel-heavy staging areas. A reinforced top carry handle with hook-and-loop closure supports short-duration lifts and repositioning during final approach.

Gear storage follows a deliberate architecture. The main compartment opens via a wide-mouth clam-shell zipper configuration for systematic packing and rapid unpacking of bulky PPE without forcing items. Two large side pockets isolate ancillary equipment, including gloves, hood, SCBA facepiece, and personal bailout systems, from the core ensemble, preserving the layout and readiness of life-safety equipment throughout transport.

Doctrine-approved operational contexts include inter-station personnel movement, volunteer and POC response, high-rise and extended access operations, and training deployment to academies or base camps. The pack is a transport device only and is not rated for hoisting, lowering, or anchoring. Any post-fire use requires the bag itself to be treated as contaminated and decontaminated per NFPA 1851 and department SOPs.

Field Application Steps

1. STAGING AND PREPARATION: Place the pack on a clean, dry surface with the main compartment facing up. Actuate the main compartment zipper completely to create a full clam-shell opening, then open both side pocket zippers.

2. PACK BOOTS AND PANTS: Place boots at the bottom of the main compartment with soles facing down. Fold turnout pants over and between the boots to create a stable, level base layer.

3. POSITION HELMET: Set the helmet dome-down on top of the folded pants. This orientation protects the suspension system and any attachments mounted to the shell during transport.

4. LOAD THE COAT: Fold the turnout coat and place it over the helmet, filling remaining space in the main compartment. Position it for first-out access so it can be removed immediately upon opening at the destination.

5. STOW ANCILLARY GEAR IN SIDE POCKETS: Load gloves, hood, and smaller items into Side Pocket 1. Load the SCBA mask bag, personal bailout system, or larger accessories into Side Pocket 2 to isolate life-safety equipment from general gear.

6. SECURE THE LOAD: Close the main compartment zipper fully from both pull-tabs. Close both side pocket zippers completely. Confirm all pull-tabs are seated and not snagged on fabric or equipment.

7. SELECT TRANSPORT CONFIGURATION: For distances greater than 20 feet or when navigating obstacles, don both shoulder straps and carry the pack in backpack configuration to maintain hands-free capability. For short-distance repositioning on unobstructed ground, use the top carry handle and secure the hook-and-loop wrap for a positive grip.

8. POST-TRANSPORT INSPECTION: After arrival, inspect the interior and exterior for tears or punctures. If the pack was used to transport post-fire gear, treat the bag as contaminated and initiate decontamination per NFPA 1851 and applicable department SOPs before returning it to service.
