Quick Overview

The EVAC Systems C-Collar Pack is a dedicated equipment management and transport system for spinal immobilization adjuncts, used by EMS, Fire-Rescue, SAR, and tactical medical personnel to organize, protect, and rapidly deploy cervical collars and related stabilization equipment at trauma scenes.

The pack is built around a 1,000 Denier Cordura nylon chassis that allows deployment on rough surfaces including asphalt, concrete, and debris fields without compromising the cleanliness or integrity of stored equipment. The main storage compartment measures 24 inches long by 6 inches wide by 13 inches tall, accommodating 10 to 12 flat-stored cervical collars of various sizes alongside ladder splints, spider straps, or head blocks. A full-length zipper runs the entire top of the pack, allowing the bag to lay completely open for immediate visual identification and rapid collar selection in time-critical scenarios.

The operational objective of this system is to reduce time from patient contact to correct collar application by eliminating disorganized equipment and ensuring all components are present and serviceable before every response. Seatbelt-webbing handles wrap the bag's circumference for structural integrity, enabling rapid retrieval from an apparatus compartment and secure transport to the patient's side. The pack is designed for staging on vehicle hoods, backboards, or tarps, keeping equipment accessible while preserving the operational area.

Sustainment of this system requires weekly inspection of the exterior, hardware, and contents, along with routine cleaning using mild soap and a damp cloth. For biohazard exposure, a service-approved intermediate-level disinfectant is required, and the bag must never be machine washed or treated with bleach, as both will degrade the Cordura fabric. Proper storage in a climate-controlled, crush-free compartment preserves both the bag and the collar contents between responses.

Field Application Steps

1. EQUIPMENT RETRIEVAL: Upon confirmation of a potential spinal injury, retrieve the C-Collar Pack from its designated storage location in the apparatus. Carry the pack to the immediate vicinity of the patient using the seatbelt-webbing handles, maintaining a firm grip during movement.

2. STAGING AND PREPARATION: Place the pack on a stable, flat surface near the patient but outside the immediate operational area. Suitable staging surfaces include the hood of a vehicle, a backboard, or a staging tarp.

3. FULL DEPLOYMENT: Grasp the zipper pull and open the bag along its entire length. Fold both sides open so the pack lays completely flat, fully exposing all collar sizes and contents for immediate visual access.

4. EQUIPMENT SELECTION: While a second provider maintains manual C-spine stabilization, visually scan the full array of collars. Select the appropriately sized cervical collar based on patient anatomy, remove only the selected collar and immediately needed accessories, and leave all remaining equipment organized within the open pack.

5. POST-OPERATION RECONSTITUTION: After patient care is transferred, secure the C-Collar Pack and return it to the apparatus. Conduct a full inventory of contents as soon as practicable, clean any soiled surfaces per Section 5 protocols, and restock any used or missing items to restore the pack to 100 percent mission-capable status before the next response.

6. PERIODIC INSPECTION: On a weekly basis or per service protocol, inspect the Cordura exterior for rips, tears, or excessive abrasion, and check all seams for separation. Operate the zipper along its full length to confirm smooth function, inspect handle webbing at all attachment points for fraying, and verify the interior is dry and free of contamination.

7. CLEANING AND DECONTAMINATION: For routine cleaning, wipe the exterior and interior with a damp cloth and mild soap, rinse with a clean cloth, and allow the bag to air dry completely before repacking. For biohazard exposure, apply a service-approved intermediate-level disinfectant such as CaviWipes or Sani-Cloth, following manufacturer contact time instructions. Do not machine wash or use bleach.

8. STORAGE: Return the pack to a designated, climate-controlled compartment within the emergency vehicle, ensuring it will not be crushed by other equipment. Store the pack laid flat or standing on its end as the preferred orientations.
