Quick Overview

The EVAC Systems MABAS Team Bag (EP225) is a high-capacity, 1000D Cordura duffel designed to transport and organize a complete complement of PPE, uniforms, and personal sustainment gear for individual responders during multi-day or no-notice mutual aid deployments including MABAS activations, USAR task force assignments, and wildland fire details.

The EP225 operates as a mobile locker, providing approximately 7,800 cubic inches of total capacity across a main compartment and three dedicated external pockets. The main compartment, measuring 31 inches by 18 inches by 14 inches, is calibrated to accommodate full turnout gear including helmet, coat, pants, and boots, or a sleeping bag equivalent. A U-shaped zippered opening enables wide-mouth, unobstructed access that eliminates forced insertion of bulky items and speeds packing under time-critical deployment conditions.

The bag's segregation protocol is central to its operational value and contamination control capability. Pocket 1 is designated for clean items such as station uniforms and undergarments. Pocket 2 holds high-access items including toiletries, chargers, medications, and required paperwork for immediate use upon arrival at billeting. Pocket 3 is reserved exclusively for soiled or contaminated items, which must be sealed in a non-permeable bag before placement to prevent cross-contamination of the 1000D Cordura shell.

The EP225's carriage system includes fixed padded web handles for short-distance controlled movement and a removable shoulder strap that attaches to D-rings on opposing corners for balanced diagonal carry during longer-distance transport. The 1000D Cordura body provides high resistance to abrasion, tearing, and water penetration across uncontrolled staging environments, though responders must note the material is water-resistant, not waterproof, and is not rated for hazardous materials containment.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Before packing, inspect all zippers for proper function, all seams for integrity, and web handles and shoulder strap D-rings for tearing or fraying. Rectify any deficiencies before loading the bag.

2. GEAR STAGING: Open the EP225 fully and lay it flat with the U-shaped opening completely unzipped on a clear floor space. Lay out all required equipment grouped by type: PPE, station wear, civilian clothes, sleeping system, hygiene items, electronics, and documentation. Visually inspect all items before packing.

3. MAIN COMPARTMENT LOADING: Load the bottom layer with least-accessed items, specifically the sleeping bag and pillow. Place folded turnout coat and pants flat in the middle layer to reduce creasing, then position the helmet and boots on the top layer. Soiled boots must be bagged before placement to prevent cross-contamination.

4. POCKET COMPARTMENTALIZATION: Pack Pocket 1 with rolled station uniforms, socks, undergarments, and off-duty clothing. Load Pocket 2 with your toiletry kit, medications, charging cables, spare batteries, headlamp, and required paperwork, as this is your first-in kit upon arrival at billeting. Leave Pocket 3 empty at departure, reserving it for soiled items accumulated during the operational period.

5. SOILED ITEM PROTOCOL: Any contaminated PPE or clothing generated during deployment must be sealed inside a non-permeable bag, such as a heavy-duty trash bag, before placement into Pocket 3. Do not place unsecured soiled items directly against the Cordura shell.

6. FINAL LOAD CHECK AND CLOSURE: Close and confirm all zippers, including the main U-shaped zipper and all pocket zippers, are fully sealed. Lift the bag via the web handles to assess weight and balance, and adjust the internal load if the bag sits unstably.

7. TRANSPORT CONFIGURATION: If hands-free operation is required, attach the shoulder strap to the D-rings on opposing corners for a balanced diagonal carry. If the shoulder strap is not needed, stow it inside an external pocket to prevent snagging during transport.

8. POST-DEPLOYMENT EMPTYING AND CLEANING: Completely empty all compartments and pockets outside of personal living quarters. Brush out loose dirt and clean the interior and exterior with a stiff brush and mild soap and water. Do not machine wash or machine dry, as this degrades the Cordura fabric and water-resistant properties.

9. DRYING AND STORAGE: Hang the bag in a well-ventilated area with all zippers open and allow it to reach 100 percent dry before storing. Store the bag empty, clean, and dry in a climate-controlled environment, and maintain a laminated copy of your agency's deployment checklist inside one of the pockets for rapid future activation.
