Quick Overview

The EVAC Systems New York Style RIT Rope Bag is a specialized search line carrier designed for structural firefighting, USAR, and Rapid Intervention Team operations, enabling trained emergency services personnel to deploy 7.5mm search rope in confined, low-visibility environments with a built-in emergency jettison capability.

The bag is purpose-built to house 200 to 220 feet of 7.5mm rope in an 11-inch by 4-inch by 8-inch main compartment constructed from 1,000D Cordura shell material rated for 500 degrees Fahrenheit of radiant heat resistance. Rope must be stuffed, not coiled, to ensure tangle-free payout under zero-visibility and high-stress conditions. The bottom grommet provides drainage to prevent moisture accumulation that degrades rope integrity and adds operational weight.

Operator safety during entanglement scenarios is addressed through dual seatbelt-style quick-release buckles that function ambidextrously and redundantly. Actuating either buckle immediately severs the strap connection, freeing the operator from the bag without tools or complex manipulation. High-visibility reflective tape on both sides enhances operator profile in smoke and can serve as a passive entry-point marker if the bag is dropped during a search evolution.

The bag's D-ring, fabric handles, and shell are non-load-bearing components and are not rated for life safety loads under any circumstances. The bag functions as a component within a larger search system, not as a standalone anchor or harness. Deployment readiness depends on pre-shift buckle function checks, proper rope packing protocol, and post-incident sustainment procedures including full rope inspection before repack.

Field Application Steps

1. LOAD AND PACK THE ROPE: Load the main compartment with department-approved 7.5mm rope not exceeding 220 feet. Stuff the rope, do not coil it, to ensure tangle-free payout under stress and zero-visibility conditions. Confirm the running end is accessible from the top and the standing end is secured per department SOP.

2. LOAD ANCILLARY TOOLS: Stock exterior pockets with required operational tools such as search webbing, wire cutters, strobes, carabiners, or door chocks based on your department's search SOP. Confirm all pockets are fully closed and secured before donning.

3. CONDUCT PRE-DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM CHECK: Function-check both seatbelt-style quick-release buckles by actuating each one. Each buckle must engage with an audible click and release immediately with firm pressure. Confirm the carry strap is free of twists, fraying, and damage before proceeding.

4. DON THE BAG OVER SCBA: Place the bag over your SCBA and adjust the strap so the bag rests flat against your side or back, minimizing your profile for movement through confined spaces. Confirm that both quick-release buckles remain accessible by feel with gloved hands.

5. ESTABLISH AND CONFIRM ANCHOR AT ENTRY POINT: At the designated entry point, secure the standing end of the search line to a bomb-proof anchor such as a structural column or secured apparatus. The bag itself is not the anchor. Verbally and physically confirm the anchor is set before making entry.

6. ADVANCE AND MANAGE LINE PAYOUT: As the search team moves into the structure, rope pays out from the top of the bag. The Control member must maintain the line as taut as possible to prevent slack and reduce entanglement hazards for the team.

7. EXECUTE EMERGENCY JETTISON IF REQUIRED: If you or the bag become immovably entangled and manual attempts to free yourself have failed or are taking too long, locate either seatbelt buckle by feel without delay. Depress the release button with a positive, forceful action to sever the strap and free yourself from the bag. Immediately communicate your status to your team leader. The search line remains anchored, but further line deployment is terminated.

8. CONDUCT POST-INCIDENT SUSTAINMENT: Remove all rope and tools from the bag. Clean the bag with fresh water and mild soap, using a brush to clear debris from the buckles, then rinse thoroughly. Air dry completely out of direct sunlight and do not apply mechanical heat.

9. INSPECT AND REPACK FOR NEXT DEPLOYMENT: Inspect the entire length of search rope per manufacturer and department protocols before re-stuffing. Once the bag and rope are fully dry, stuff the rope into the main compartment, restock all tools, and store the bag in its designated ready location on the apparatus, protected from elements and contamination.
