Quick Overview

The EVAC Systems RIT Bag (Model EP043) is a purpose-built cache carrier that consolidates supplemental air supply, forcible entry tools, and search lines into a single deployable platform for Rapid Intervention Teams responding to a firefighter Mayday event.

The EP043 is organized into four operational zones to support parallel task execution at the victim location. The main compartment (32"L x 14"W x 12.5"H) houses a complete SCBA pack with 60-minute cylinder, a RIT mask, secured irons, and a 200-foot search rope bag. The front pocket is dedicated to search taglines for rapid deployment while the main compartment remains accessible. The two end pockets provide immediate access to door wedges, wire cutters, sprinkler stops, and non-sparking wrenches without opening the primary cache.

The bag's chassis is engineered for interior movement under IDLH conditions. A reinforced vinyl skid plate on the bottom allows operators to drag the fully loaded bag across debris fields without compromising structural integrity. The 1000 Denier Cordura Nylon shell provides abrasion and tear resistance, while reinforced grab handles at both ends support drag-and-carry operations. The padded shoulder strap is designated for apparatus-to-entry transport only and is removed before interior deployment.

Readiness protocol is non-negotiable for this system. A mandatory complete inspection is required after every deployment or training evolution, with weekly checks conducted as part of the apparatus RIT equipment review. Chlorine bleach must never be used during cleaning, as it degrades nylon fibers. The bag must be repacked immediately after every inspection. An empty or improperly packed RIT bag is classified as a mission failure.

Field Application Steps

1. STAGING AND PRE-ENTRY CHECK: Carry the RIT Bag from the apparatus to the entry point using the padded shoulder strap or a two-person suitcase carry. Confirm all compartments are packed per the standardized load plan before committing to entry.

2. TRANSITION AT THE ENTRY POINT: Remove and stow or discard the shoulder strap at the threshold. Transition the team to a low-profile posture with one operator on the lead drag handle and a second operator positioned to assist over obstacles.

3. MOVEMENT TO VICTIM: Drag the bag along the floor using the reinforced vinyl skid plate, keeping the cache directly behind the lead RIT member as the team advances along the search line. Where feasible, conduct a visual and tactile inspection of the drag path for sheared metal or rebar that could puncture the skid plate.

4. DEPLOYMENT AT VICTIM LOCATION: Place the bag adjacent to the downed firefighter. Open the single large-zippered main compartment to present the full cache simultaneously to the working team.

5. TASK ASSIGNMENT AND TOOL ACCESS: Assign Member 1 to access the SCBA pack and provide the victim with a new air supply using the 60-minute cylinder and RIT mask. Assign Member 2 to access the Halligan bar, flathead axe, or wire cutters to begin extrication based on the entrapment type. Deploy search rope and taglines as needed for egress path management.

6. PACKAGING AND REMOVAL: Once the downed firefighter is stabilized and extricated, consolidate tools no longer in active use back into the bag to support an organized egress. The primary mission, delivering the full cache to the victim location, is complete at this stage.
