Quick Overview

The Rothco ALICE Pack Frame Shoulder Straps are padded, fully adjustable replacement straps designed for the LC-1 ALICE pack system, used by military personnel, hikers, hunters, and tactical operators to distribute heavy loads and reduce shoulder fatigue over extended carries.

These straps are constructed from rugged polyester rated for all-weather operational environments. The generous padding distributes weight evenly across the shoulders, alleviating pressure points that degrade operator performance over distance. They are engineered for universal compatibility with all standard LC-1 ALICE pack frames, making them a direct replacement or upgrade over original G.I. issue straps.

Installation follows a four-step protocol: attaching the upper loops to the frame's horizontal bar, threading the lower webbing through the bottom crossbar attachment points, securing the webbing through the adjustment buckles with no slack remaining, and completing an initial length adjustment before loading the pack. Proper sequencing is critical to achieving balanced weight distribution and a stable carry.

Field readiness requires consistent maintenance. Straps should be spot cleaned with mild soap and a soft brush, air dried completely before storage or reattachment, and inspected before each deployment for fraying, damaged stitching, or buckle wear. Replacing compromised straps immediately preserves the structural integrity of the entire load-carrying system.

Field Application Steps

1. ATTACH UPPER STRAPS: Identify the two attachment loops at the top of the shoulder straps. Slide each loop over the upper horizontal bar of the ALICE pack frame, positioning one loop on each side of the vertical center bar.

2. ATTACH LOWER STRAPS: Locate the bottom webbing and adjustment buckles on each strap. Thread the webbing down and through the corresponding lower attachment points on the frame, typically the horizontal crossbar near the bottom of the frame.

3. SECURE WEBBING: Feed the loose end of each webbing length back through its adjustment buckle. Pull firmly to eliminate all slack and lock the webbing in place before proceeding.

4. COMPLETE INITIAL ADJUSTMENT: Before loading the pack, adjust both strap lengths until they are even and balanced on both sides. Uneven strap lengths will shift the load and compromise carry stability.

5. INSPECT BEFORE EACH USE: Prior to every deployment or outing, check all webbing, stitching, and buckles for fraying, damage, or excessive wear. If structural integrity is compromised on any component, replace the straps before use.

6. CLEAN AND DRY AFTER USE: Spot clean with a soft brush, mild soap, and water. Air dry completely before storing or reattaching to the frame. Do not machine wash or machine dry, as heat and harsh detergents degrade both the padding and the webbing material.
