Quick Overview

The EVAC Systems HARP High Angle Rescue Pack is a large-volume technical rescue backpack designed to transport a complete vertical rescue system, including up to 400 feet of rope and all associated hardware, for SAR teams, fire departments, and industrial rescue operators.

The HARP is engineered around a single core principle: strict separation of life-safety rope from metal hardware. Its 4,800 cubic inch main compartment is dedicated exclusively to rope storage, while a discrete Hardware Vault isolates carabiners, pulleys, ascenders, and rigging plates. This compartmentalization prevents abrasion damage to the rope during transport, preserving system integrity and ensuring the rope is field-ready at the objective. A compromised rope in a vertical environment is a critical system failure, not a recoverable equipment issue.

The pack's carry system supports two distinct deployment modes. For ground movement, stowable backpack shoulder straps deploy from a hidden pocket, enabling hands-free movement for a single operator carrying a complete technical setup. For vertical lifts, those straps stow completely and a reinforced structural top handle serves as the rated hard point for hoisting the loaded pack up cliff faces, towers, or into confined spaces. This dual-mode capability is what makes the HARP a true system bag, not simply a transport container.

Readiness is maintained through consistent pre- and post-deployment inspection of the pack's fabric, stitching, buckles, and top hoist handle, combined with proper storage in a cool, dry environment away from UV exposure and chemical hazards.

Field Application Steps

1. STAGE EQUIPMENT: Lay out the HARP, the full rope load of up to 400 feet of 1/2-inch static kernmantle, and all required hardware for the mission. Conduct a complete pre-deployment inventory check before packing anything.

2. INSPECT THE PACK: Examine the pack for tears, frayed stitching, and damage to buckles and straps. Inspect the structural top hoist handle with particular care, as this is the rated hard point for all vertical lift operations.

3. PACK THE ROPE: Methodically flake the entire rope length directly into the main rope bay compartment. Flaking, rather than coiling and dropping, ensures a clean, tangle-free deployment from the bag at the objective.

4. SECURE HARDWARE: Place all metal hardware, including carabiners, pulleys, descent devices, and anchor plates, into the dedicated Hardware Vault compartment. Securely fasten the compartment closure before moving to transport. Never place hardware in the main rope bay.

5. CONFIGURE FOR GROUND TRANSPORT: Deploy the hidden backpack shoulder straps from their stowage pocket and adjust for a secure, ergonomic fit. The pack is now configured for hands-free ground movement to the objective.

6. CONFIGURE FOR VERTICAL HOISTING: When transitioning to a vertical lift, stow the backpack straps completely to eliminate all snagging hazards. Attach a haul line directly to the reinforced structural top handle and raise or lower the system as required by the operation.
