Quick Overview

The R&B Milwaukee Strap Fold-Out Hose Pack is a professional-grade hose carrier engineered for rapid deployment of a 150-foot attack hoseline by trained firefighting personnel conducting standpipe operations in high-rise and large commercial structures.

The pack's core design advantage is its fold-out clamshell configuration, which addresses one of the most common failure points in standpipe operations: hose deployment in constrained stairwell environments. Unlike traditional tube-style bags, this system lays completely flat on a landing, presenting the entire 150-foot hose load for visual inspection before the line is charged. The 22 oz. reinforced vinyl shell with double-thick walls, bottom, and ends provides structural integrity during transport across concrete, metal grating, and non-slip decking. Two heavy-duty Velcro straps secure the load during ascent and allow single-action opening at the deployment point.

Transport to the staging floor is a two-firefighter operation using the dual end handles, which provide maximum ergonomic control during stairwell ascent. The central 2-inch webbing handle supports single-person carry over level ground, and heavy-duty D-rings accept an optional shoulder strap to free hands when needed. Standard protocol positions the attack line at the standpipe outlet one floor below the fire floor, with the nozzle firefighter flaking out approximately 50 feet of working line prior to charging.

Post-incident sustainment is built into the pack's design. Three brass drainage grommets on the pack bottom provide passive drainage of residual water, preventing mildew and material degradation during storage. The recommended loading sequence prioritizes placing the nozzle and first 50 feet of working length on top for immediate nozzle firefighter access at deployment.

Field Application Steps

1. ASSIGN TRANSPORT CREW: Designate a two-firefighter team to carry the hose pack using the dual end handles. This two-person carry method provides maximum control and ergonomic safety during stairwell ascent to the staging floor.

2. ASCEND TO STAGING FLOOR: Proceed to the floor directly below the fire floor, which is the 6th floor in a 7th-floor attack scenario per standard department protocol. Maintain situational awareness throughout the ascent and protect the pack from unnecessary impact against walls or railings.

3. PLACE AND OPEN THE PACK: Set the pack on a flat, clear section of the stairwell landing, ensuring a working area of approximately 36 inches by 24 inches is available. Release both Velcro straps and unfold the pack completely flat to expose the entire hose load.

4. INSPECT THE HOSE LAY: Visually inspect the entire hose lay for twists or kinks before making any connections. Transportation can shift the internal load; this inspection is the final opportunity to identify and correct a potential deployment failure before the line is charged.

5. CONNECT TO STANDPIPE OUTLET: Identify the female coupling and connect it securely to the standpipe outlet. Confirm the connection is tight before proceeding.

6. FLAKE OUT WORKING LINE: The nozzle firefighter flakes out approximately 50 feet of working line from the top of the pile toward the fire floor entry point. This pre-advance flake facilitates unobstructed movement from the landing onto the fire floor without pulling against the pack.

7. CHARGE THE LINE: Once the nozzle team is in position and confirmed ready, order the line to be charged. Do not charge before the team is set and the hose lay has been inspected.

8. ADVANCE AND MANAGE THE PACK: The nozzle firefighter advances toward the objective as hose flakes smoothly from the opened pack on the staging floor below. Once the hoseline is fully deployed, leave the empty vinyl pack on the staging floor, positioned clear of the primary egress path.
