Quick Overview

The Emergency Zone Sanitation Kit is a field-deployable human waste management system used by emergency responders, families, and field personnel to establish sanitary toilet capability when plumbing infrastructure is inoperative or inaccessible.

The kit converts any standard 3, 5, or 6-gallon utility bucket into a functional portable toilet using three primary components: a snap-on toilet seat with integrated lid rated to 300 lbs, ten biodegradable liners that serve as the primary waste containment barrier, and ten Eco Gel Stick Packs that solidify liquid waste and activate a lemongrass deodorizer on contact with moisture. Each gel pack is rated to treat up to one gallon of liquid, and each liner-and-gel-pack pairing constitutes one complete use cycle, giving the kit ten full cycles of operational capacity. The system is designed for deployment in disaster response, remote area operations, contingency vehicle support, and facility lockdown scenarios.

Proper deployment follows a sequential protocol: site selection in a ventilated, private area, liner insertion with excess draped over the bucket rim, pre-charge with one gel pack, and firm attachment of the snap-on seat. During use, operators close the lid after each deposit and add a second gel pack as liquid volume approaches one gallon. Liners are changed when they reach approximately two-thirds capacity to prevent tearing during handling and transport.

Sustainment planning is critical for extended operations. The manual recommends maintaining a consumable log and pre-positioning a surplus of two to three times the anticipated operational need. Stored kits should be kept in cool, dry, dark conditions, and gel packs showing clumping or solidified powder must be discarded immediately as evidence of moisture intrusion.

Field Application Steps

1. SELECT AND PREPARE YOUR SITE: Identify a private, well-ventilated area on a stable, level floor such as a utility room, garage, or spare bathroom. Co-locate a hand hygiene station with alcohol-based hand sanitizer at 60% or higher, or a basin with soap and water.

2. INSPECT AND ACQUIRE YOUR BUCKET: Procure a structurally sound 3, 5, or 6-gallon bucket free of cracks, defects, or deformation. Confirm the bucket is clean and dry before proceeding.

3. INSERT THE LINER: Unfold one biodegradable toilet liner, place it inside the bucket, and drape the excess liner material evenly over the outer rim so it is fully seated and will be captured by the snap-on seat.

4. PRE-CHARGE WITH ECO GEL: Open one Eco Gel Stick Pack and pour the entire contents into the bottom of the lined bucket. This pre-charge ensures immediate solidification and odor control upon first use.

5. ATTACH THE TOILET SEAT: Align the snap-on toilet seat over the bucket rim and press down firmly and evenly until it clicks securely into place. Verify the seat does not shift or rock before placing the unit into service.

6. CLOSE THE LID AFTER EVERY USE: Keep the lid closed between uses at all times to control odor, contain contaminants, and deter pests. This is a non-negotiable protocol step, not optional.

7. MONITOR WASTE VOLUME AND ADD GEL AS NEEDED: When liquid waste volume approaches approximately one gallon, open and add one additional Eco Gel Stick Pack to ensure complete solidification and sustained odor control. A single liner may serve multiple users across multiple deposits until it reaches two-thirds capacity.

8. PREPARE THE LINER FOR DISPOSAL: When the liner reaches two-thirds full, unsnap and remove the toilet seat and set it aside on a cleanable surface. Gather the top of the liner, twist it tightly to seal, and tie it off with a secure overhand knot.

9. REMOVE AND STAGE WASTE FOR DISPOSAL: Wearing disposable gloves, carefully lift the sealed bag and dispose of it in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. During prolonged emergencies where disposal services are unavailable, store sealed bags in a secure location away from living quarters and protected from pests and environmental exposure.

10. RESET THE SYSTEM FOR CONTINUED OPERATION: Clean the bucket and toilet seat as needed. Perform hand hygiene immediately. Repeat steps 3 through 5 to return the system to full operational readiness.
