Quick Overview

A water rope storage bag is a bulk storage and transport system for large-diameter rescue rope that enables trained technical rescue professionals to move, deploy, and sustain long-line rope assets in swiftwater and technical rescue environments.

The EP302W is engineered for high-capacity rope management, holding up to 300 feet of half-inch diameter rescue rope. Its heavy-duty mesh chassis enables immediate water drainage and continuous ventilation, preventing mildew and rot during transport and post-mission sustainment. The wide-mouth top opening allows rapid flaking of the full rope load and supports smooth, low-friction pay-out during deployment. Reinforced webbing at all critical stress points ensures structural integrity under a fully saturated rope load that can exceed 30 pounds.

This system is classified strictly as a storage and transport carrier, not a throw bag. Attempting to throw the EP302W will produce an uncontrolled deployment and create a significant entanglement hazard for both operator and victim. Intended applications include wide-area river crossings, boat-based high-line operations, and dive team search pattern deployments where a primary long-line rope cache is required.

Adjustable shoulder straps allow a single operator to carry the fully loaded bag hands-free, maintaining three points of contact on slippery or technical terrain. Post-mission protocol requires flaking the recovered rope directly into the mesh bag, rinsing with fresh water via low-pressure hose, and hanging the entire loaded bag in a cool, ventilated area away from UV exposure and high-heat sources before returning it to apparatus storage.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Visually inspect all seams, webbing, shoulder straps, and adjustment buckles for fraying, separation, or functional failure. Examine the mesh body for tears, punctures, or abrasion that could snag rope or compromise structural integrity during transport.

2. ROPE LOADING: Flake the entire 300-foot rope directly into the bag. Do not coil. Flaking ensures tangle-free pay-out during deployment and prevents binding under load.

3. CONFIRM MISSION-READY STATUS: Verify the rope is fully seated, settled, and compact inside the bag. Confirm the bag is within capacity and free of debris before closing and donning.

4. TRANSPORT TO OPERATIONAL SITE: Don the bag using the shoulder straps and adjust for a secure, balanced fit. Proceed to the designated anchor point while maintaining three points of contact on steep or slippery terrain. Use trekking poles as needed since the hands-free carry permits it.

5. DEPLOYMENT STAGING: Place the bag on a stable surface, preferably on a tarp, to protect the rope from ground debris and abrasive particulates at the water's edge.

6. PAY-OUT AND RIGGING: Pull the working end from the top opening and proceed with rigging. Feed rope as needed directly from the top opening, allowing the bag's structure to serve as a controlled staging area throughout the operation.

7. ROPE RECOVERY: Once the rope is recovered from the water, flake it directly back into the mesh bag. Do not attempt to decontaminate or dry on-scene unless hazmat protocols require it.

8. POST-MISSION CLEANING: With the rope still flaked inside, rinse both rope and bag thoroughly using a low-pressure hose with fresh water to remove silt, salt, and abrasive particulates. Allow the bag to drain completely before initiating the drying protocol.

9. DRYING PROTOCOL: Hang the entire bag, with rope still inside, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area such as a hose tower or dedicated drying rack. Protect from direct sunlight and keep away from high-heat sources including engines and generators. Do not return to storage until both rope and bag are confirmed completely dry.

10. LONG-TERM STORAGE: Store the fully dried, loaded bag in a designated apparatus compartment or rescue cache, protected from environmental contamination, sharp objects, and crushing weight, ready for immediate deployment.
