Gauze rolls and elastic wraps secure and maintain pressure at the wound site. Responders must check capillary refill distal to any wrap to confirm circulation is not compromised. Wound cleaning with alcohol or povidone-iodine wipes is restricted to intact skin surrounding the wound, never applied directly into open tissue.

Readiness requires monthly inspection and post-deployment inventory checks against the full component list. All dated items, including sterile dressings, eyewash, and burn gel, must be replaced if expired or expiring within six months. This kit does not include a commercial tourniquet and is not rated for catastrophic arterial hemorrhage. Field Application Steps

1. SCENE ASSESSMENT AND PPE: Confirm the scene is safe before approaching the casualty. Open the Cordura responder bag on a stable surface and don a pair of Nitrile Exam Gloves immediately before any patient contact.

2. INITIAL PATIENT ASSESSMENT: Approach the patient, introduce yourself, and obtain consent to treat. Conduct a primary survey to identify immediate life threats, prioritizing visible bleeding as the primary threat requiring action.

3. EXPOSE THE WOUND: Use the 7.25-inch Trauma Shears to cut away clothing and expose the injury site. Do not attempt to assess or treat a wound through fabric.

4. BLEEDING CONTROL: Apply a 5-inch by 9-inch Trauma Pad or 4-inch by 4-inch sterile gauze pads directly onto the wound with firm, continuous direct pressure. If the initial pad saturates, stack additional pads on top. Do not remove the base layer.

5. SECURE THE DRESSING: Wrap the dressing with a 4-inch Gauze Roll or Elastic Bandage Wrap to maintain consistent pressure. Check capillary refill in the digits distal to the wrap to confirm circulation is not restricted.

6. WOUND CLEANING FOR MINOR WOUNDS: Use Alcohol Wipes or Povidone-Iodine Wipes to clean intact skin around the wound perimeter prior to dressing application. Do not apply either product directly into open or deep wound tissue.

7. SECONDARY INJURY MANAGEMENT: Instruct the patient not to move the injured limb. Inspect for deformity. Activate the appropriate Cold Pack by squeezing or striking and apply it over the injury with a barrier, such as clothing or a folded Triangular Bandage, between the pack and bare skin.

8. IMMOBILIZATION SUPPORT: Configure a Triangular Bandage as a sling for upper extremity injuries or fold it into a cravat to secure splints or large dressings. Use Cloth Athletic Tape or Elastic Wrap to reinforce immobilization as needed.

9. SHOCK PREVENTION AND MONITORING: Unfold the 52-inch by 84-inch Emergency Blanket and cover the patient fully to retain body heat. Monitor level of consciousness and wound status continuously until EMS arrives.

10. EMS HANDOVER AND POST-INCIDENT ACTIONS: Brief incoming EMS personnel on patient condition, injuries identified, and interventions performed. Collect all used gloves, dressings, and contaminated materials and place them in the 24-inch by 24-inch Biohazard Bag for disposal per local protocol.

11. POST-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Conduct a full inventory count against the component list. Replace all used, damaged, or opened single-use items before returning the kit to its designated storage location. Log the date, inspector initials, and all replaced items in the inspection record maintained with the kit.
