The First Aid Only Emergency Response Bag is a modular, multi-capability first aid system used by first responders, workplace safety officers, and preparedness personnel to assess, treat, and stabilize injuries ranging from minor abrasions to life-threatening hemorrhage at the point of injury.

The kit is organized into seven purpose-built modular treatment packs, each self-contained for a specific injury category: hemorrhage control, wound care, burn care, musculoskeletal injury, ocular injury, and biohazard and PPE. This modular architecture allows the operator to deploy only the required capability while keeping remaining packs organized, sealed, and uncontaminated. In mass casualty scenarios, individual packs can be distributed to multiple trained responders simultaneously, extending the kit's operational reach across multiple patients.

The Bleeding Control module carries the most critical components in the kit, including a windlass tourniquet, hemostatic blood-clotting gauze, a Hema-Seal trauma pad with conforming gauze roll, four trauma pads, and a backup tourniquet. The windlass tourniquet is applied high and tight on a single-bone limb, tightened until bleeding stops, with time of application recorded. Hemostatic gauze addresses junctional wounds at the neck, groin, or axilla where a tourniquet cannot be placed. Formal training is required before deploying these items, as improper application can cause permanent limb damage.

Readiness sustainment is a defined protocol under this SOP. Monthly inspections confirm all modular packs are present, sealed, and undamaged. Quarterly inspections require opening each pack for detailed inventory and expiration date verification, with any item within 90 days of expiration flagged for replacement. Following any deployment, the kit is considered non-mission-capable until fully restocked and documented in a logbook.

Field Application Steps

1. SCENE ASSESSMENT AND BSI: Confirm all environmental hazards are mitigated before approaching the patient. Don nitrile exam gloves as your first action before any patient contact.

2. PATIENT TRIAGE AND EMS ACTIVATION: Identify the most severe injury present and direct a bystander to call 911 immediately. Life-threatening hemorrhage takes priority over all other injuries.

3. TOURNIQUET APPLICATION FOR ARTERIAL OR SEVERE LIMB BLEEDING: Remove the Bleeding Control module and expose the injury. Apply the windlass tourniquet high and tight on the single-bone section of the affected limb, tighten the windlass until all bleeding stops, and record the exact time of application on the time strap.

4. HEMOSTATIC GAUZE FOR JUNCTIONAL WOUNDS: For severe bleeding at the neck, groin, or axilla where a tourniquet cannot be placed, pack the wound with the hemostatic blood-clotting gauze pad and hold firm, direct pressure continuously against the source of bleeding.

5. PRESSURE DRESSING APPLICATION: Apply the Hema-Seal 8x10 trauma pad over a packed wound or large surface area wound. Wrap tightly with the conforming gauze roll to maintain sustained pressure.

6. BURN INJURY MANAGEMENT: Deploy the Burn Care module to a trained responder for the secondary patient. Apply the sterile gel-soaked burn dressing directly to the affected area to cool and protect minor to moderate thermal burns. Do not apply burn cream to broken skin or deep burns.

7. SECONDARY ASSESSMENT AND SHOCK MANAGEMENT: Reassess the tourniquet to confirm bleeding has not resumed. Monitor both patients continuously for signs of shock and maintain patient positioning until EMS arrives.

8. EMS HANDOFF: Report injuries identified, all treatments rendered, and the exact tourniquet application time to incoming EMS personnel. Transfer patient care clearly and completely.

9. DECONTAMINATION AND DOCUMENTATION: Deploy the BBP Cleanup kit if bodily fluids are present, using the gown, face shield, and gloves before handling any fluid contamination. Doff gloves properly, dispose of all contaminated single-use items in a biohazard bag, and document all items used in the incident logbook.
