Quick Overview

The Guardian Vacuum-Sealed Stop the Bleed Kit is a compact, field-ready hemorrhage control system designed for trained operators and prepared civilians to manage life-threatening external bleeding at the point of injury before advanced medical support arrives.

The kit's deployment protocol follows a five-step sequence: confirm scene safety, access the kit via tear notch, expose and assess the wound, apply the SOF Tourniquet Gen 4 for extremity hemorrhage, and execute wound packing with Compressed Krinkle Gauze for junctional wounds in the groin, armpit, or neck. The tourniquet must be positioned high and tight, proximal to the wound, with the windlass twisted until bleeding stops completely. Tourniquet application time must be recorded with the included permanent marker directly on the time strap or the casualty's forehead, as this information is critical for receiving medical personnel.

The kit's capability covers severe external hemorrhage only. It does not contain components for airway management, respiratory support, or minor injury treatment. The Emergency Survival Blanket addresses hypothermia, a component of the trauma triad of death alongside acidosis and coagulopathy, and should be deployed after bleeding is controlled to preserve the casualty's core temperature while awaiting EMS handoff.

Readiness sustainment requires monthly inspection of the vacuum seal integrity and annual verification of sterile component expiration dates. Any kit that has been opened, regardless of whether all contents were used, is considered expended and must be replaced in full. Repacking or resterilizing used components is not an authorized option under this protocol.

Field Application Steps

1. CONFIRM SCENE SAFETY: Mitigate all immediate threats before approaching the casualty, including shutting down machinery or removing environmental hazards. Do not initiate treatment in an unsafe scene.

2. ACCESS THE KIT: Locate the tear notch on the heavy-duty vacuum bag and rip it open using both hands. All contents will decompress and become immediately accessible without tools.

3. DON NITRILE GLOVES: Put on one pair of nitrile exam gloves before making any contact with the casualty. This establishes Body Substance Isolation and protects both operator and patient from bloodborne pathogens.

4. EXPOSE THE WOUND: Direct the conscious casualty to apply manual pressure to the wound site, then use the 7.25-inch utility shears to cut away all clothing covering the injury. You must visually confirm the bleeding source before treatment. Never treat through clothing.

5. ASSESS HEMORRHAGE TYPE AND LOCATION: Identify whether the bleed is extremity-based or junctional. Confirm life-threatening severity by presence of pulsatile flow, pooling blood, or clothing saturated through.

6. APPLY TOURNIQUET FOR EXTREMITY HEMORRHAGE: Route the SOF Tourniquet Gen 4 strap proximal to the wound, between the injury and the torso, pulling all slack from the webbing. Never position over a joint. Twist the windlass rod until bleeding stops completely, then lock it in the tri-ring.

7. MARK TOURNIQUET APPLICATION TIME: Using the permanent marker, write the exact time of application on the tourniquet's time strap or the casualty's forehead in the format T: HH:MM. This is non-negotiable information for EMS handoff.

8. EXECUTE WOUND PACKING FOR JUNCTIONAL HEMORRHAGE: For bleeds where tourniquet application is not feasible, firmly pack Compressed Krinkle Gauze directly into the wound cavity until it is completely filled. Maintain constant, firm pressure for a minimum of 3 to 5 minutes without releasing early.

9. APPLY SUPER STOP BANDAGE OVER PACKED WOUND: Place the Super Stop Bandage directly over the packed gauze, wrap the elastic leader tightly to sustain pressure, and secure the closure bar to lock the dressing in place.

10. WRAP CASUALTY WITH EMERGENCY SURVIVAL BLANKET: Once all life-threatening bleeding is controlled, unfold the metallized blanket and cover as much of the casualty's body as possible to prevent hypothermia and address the trauma triad of death.

11. MONITOR CONTINUOUSLY AND PREPARE FOR EMS HANDOFF: Observe the casualty and all interventions without interruption. If a tourniquet or dressing fails, apply a second one immediately. Brief arriving medical personnel with injuries found, actions taken, and exact tourniquet application time.
