- Verify scene safety, open the kit using the tear-notch, and don nitrile gloves.
- Expose the wound by cutting away clothing and identify the source of life-threatening bleeding.
- For catastrophic limb bleeding, apply the SOF® Tourniquet HIGH & TIGHT and twist the windlass until bleeding stops.
- For wounds where a tourniquet cannot be used, pack the wound cavity firmly with compressed gauze and apply the Super Stop pressure bandage.
- After controlling the bleed, prevent hypothermia by wrapping the casualty in the emergency blanket.
- Document the tourniquet application time with the marker and prepare for handoff to EMS.
