Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications Personal Trauma Bag is a compact, unstocked medical equipment carrier designed for rapid deployment by certified first responders who need an immediately accessible, single-patient initial trauma response capability at the point of injury.

The Personal Trauma Bag bridges the operational gap between an individual IFAK and a full-sized response bag. Built on a 1000 Denier Cordura nylon chassis with 840 cubic inches of organized capacity, it is purpose-built for initial patient stabilization pending EMS transport arrival. Its dual web carry handles, internal slot pockets, and integrated elastic loops allow the operator to deploy and access supplies without fumbling under stress. Designated user profiles include law enforcement patrol units, off-duty fire and rescue personnel, motorcycle medics, industrial site safety teams, and institutional responders such as athletic trainers.

The bag ships as an empty platform. The end-user organization is solely responsible for procuring, stocking, and maintaining medical supplies consistent with their certification level and local protocols. A recommended BLS trauma loadout includes a BVM, large trauma dressings, rolled gauze, a SAM splint, and an emergency blanket in the main compartment, with chest seals and nitrile gloves in the slot pockets and trauma shears, a penlight, and an OPA kit secured in the elastic loops.

Field readiness requires consistent staging, post-deployment decontamination using an approved intermediate-level disinfectant, and mandatory restocking before returning the bag to service. The heat-applied 3M reflective trim enhances operator visibility in low-light conditions and reduces pathogen collection points compared to sewn-on trim, supporting infection control protocols between deployments.

Field Application Steps

1. PROCURE AND STAGE SUPPLIES: Source medical components appropriate to your certification level and agency protocols. Populate the main compartment, slot pockets, and elastic loops according to your organization's standardized load list before placing the bag in service.

2. STAGE THE BAG FOR DEPLOYMENT: Store the bag in a consistent, readily accessible location within your assigned vehicle, such as the front passenger seat or trunk organizer. Orient the dual web carry handles for immediate grab-and-go retrieval to eliminate reorientation under stress.

3. CONDUCT PRE-SHIFT INSPECTION: Perform a quick visual check each shift to confirm the bag is present, zipped, and appears fully stocked. Conduct a comprehensive physical inspection weekly or following any call, verifying zipper function, fabric integrity, handle stitching, supply inventory, expiration dates, and sterile packaging condition.

4. CONFIRM SCENE SAFETY BEFORE APPROACH: Before exiting your vehicle, identify all hazards including traffic flow, fuel leaks, downed power lines, and unstable vehicles. Do not approach the patient until scene safety is confirmed.

5. RETRIEVE AND POSITION THE BAG: Retrieve the Personal Trauma Bag using the web handles and transport it to the patient. Place the bag on a stable, relatively clean surface adjacent to the patient, such as a vehicle hood or the ground.

6. OPEN AND ACCESS CONTENTS: Unzip the main compartment completely to allow full visibility and access to all contents. Don nitrile gloves from a slot pocket before initiating any patient contact.

7. INITIATE PATIENT INTERVENTION: Use trauma shears from an elastic loop to expose injuries as required by your patient assessment. Retrieve dressings, chest seals, and airway adjuncts from their designated compartments as dictated by the patient's condition and your scope of practice.

8. EXECUTE PATIENT HANDOVER: Provide a concise report to arriving EMS personnel detailing patient status and all interventions performed. Recover all non-disposable equipment as the patient is prepared for transport and segregate contaminated disposable waste for proper disposal.

9. DECONTAMINATE THE BAG: Immediately remove the bag from service following any exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Apply an approved intermediate-level disinfectant such as CaviWipes or Sani-Cloth to all exterior and interior surfaces, following the manufacturer's required contact time. Clean the heat-applied reflective trim surfaces thoroughly despite their reduced pathogen collection profile.

10. RESTOCK AND RETURN TO SERVICE: Restock the bag to the full standardized loadout before returning it to operational staging. Document all supplies consumed per agency protocol and confirm the bag is fully dry, fully stocked, and free of contamination before clearing it for deployment.
