Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications HS-150 High-Capacity Hose Strap is a professional-grade hose management system designed for firefighters who need to transport, secure, and rapidly deploy 100 to 150 feet of 1.75-inch attack hose during initial fire suppression operations.

The HS-150 is built around four key components that work together to solve the tactical problem of managing heavy, unstable hose bundles under operational stress. A stiff nylon spine distributes weight evenly across the assembly, preventing the load shift and sagging that compromise carry stability. Three independent Velcro straps with pull-tab release compress the bundle during transport and allow single-action deployment at the fire. A molded rubber grip handle provides secure purchase for a gloved hand during stair ascent, obstacle navigation, and extended carries over uneven terrain.

The strap system is engineered for four primary operational contexts: extended attack lines to structures with setbacks exceeding 100 feet, apparatus-based 150-foot cross-lay pre-connects, high-rise standpipe operations requiring supplemental hose transport to the fire floor, and wildland-urban interface progressive hose lays over uneven terrain. In each context, the HS-150 allows a single operator to carry a full attack line while maintaining a free hand for tools or communication.

Readiness sustainment requires post-use and weekly inspection of stitching at all attachment points, webbing and spine condition, Velcro closure integrity, and handle condition. The assembly must be air-dried only, stored away from heat sources and corrosive chemicals, and removed from service immediately if any component shows failed stitching, cut or melted webbing, a cracked handle, or Velcro that no longer fastens securely.

Field Application Steps

1. INSPECT BEFORE LOADING: Examine all stitching at handle and strap attachment points for frayed, cut, or pulled threads. Check the nylon spine and webbing for cuts, abrasions, melting, or discoloration, and verify that all three Velcro closures are free of debris and make full contact.

2. LAYOUT THE STRAP ASSEMBLY: Place the HS-150 flat on a clean surface with the spine facing down and all three Velcro straps open and fully extended. Confirm the straps are unobstructed and pull-tabs are accessible before loading any hose.

3. LOAD THE HOSE BUNDLE: Fold 100 to 150 feet of 1.75-inch double-jacketed attack hose onto the spine using a flat-load, accordion, or horseshoe configuration per department hose load policy. Position the nozzle and couplings according to your department's pre-connect standard.

4. SECURE THE BUNDLE: Cinch the center strap first, pulling firmly to compress the bundle. Apply and tighten both end straps in sequence. A tight bundle is a stable bundle.

5. VERIFY LOAD INTEGRITY: Lift the loaded assembly by the molded handle and check for sagging or shifting. If the bundle moves, set it down and retighten all three straps before transport or apparatus loading.

6. REMOVE FROM APPARATUS AT THE INCIDENT: Grasp the molded rubber handle and pull the complete hose bundle clear of the cross-lay bed or compartment in a single controlled motion.

7. TRANSPORT TO THE DROP POINT: Carry the pack suitcase-style by the handle for maximum control, or sling it over the shoulder for hands-free movement when carrying additional tools. Maintain situational awareness for snag hazards at doorways, railings, and debris fields throughout transport.

8. POSITION THE BUNDLE FOR DEPLOYMENT: Place the bundle on the ground with the nozzle and initial hose flakes oriented toward the direction of fire attack. Confirm hose layout relative to your entry point before releasing straps.

9. RELEASE STRAPS AND DEPLOY: Grasp each pull-tab and pull sharply away from the bundle to release all three Velcro straps. Flake out the hose in the direction of attack, confirm your line is clear, and call for water.

10. POST-USE INSPECTION AND STORAGE: After operations, clean the strap assembly with a stiff brush and water, using mild soap for stubborn contamination. Air dry completely with Velcro straps open. Store in a clean, dry compartment away from direct sunlight, petroleum products, and corrosive chemicals.
