Quick Overview

The Milwaukee Strap Hose Pack 36-inch (M/S-HP-36) is a rapid deployment system that enables a single firefighter to transport and advance a pre-configured 100-foot attack line in high-rise stairwells, long corridors, shipboard compartments, and other restricted environments where traditional hose carries are impractical.

The M/S-HP-36 is built around a 22 oz. reinforced vinyl body with double-layered panels at all high-wear contact points, including sides, bottom, and ends. Two heavy-duty Velcro closure straps compress the hose load into a tight, controlled bundle, preventing unintentional deployment during transport. Three brass drainage grommets along the pack bottom allow water to escape from recently-used hose, protecting against waterlogging, added weight, and mildew degradation. This construction gives the operator a field-ready, professional-grade system that performs reliably from apparatus to drop point.

The deployment architecture centers on the Quick-Deploy End Flap, which allows the nozzle and hose to be drawn directly without opening the main closure straps, keeping the remaining load organized until pulled. Transport handling is supported by a central 2-inch nylon webbing handle for level ground movement, dual end handles for two-person carries and vertical hoisting, and shoulder strap loops for hands-free stairwell ascent with full three-point ladder contact. The shoulder strap is sold separately.

Proper hose loading is the single greatest operational variable affecting system performance. An improperly folded hose will kink inside or immediately outside the pack, stopping water flow at the worst possible moment. The pack is optimized for a 100-foot accordion-style or Cleveland-style load using standard 1.5-inch or 1.75-inch double-jacketed attack hose only. Capacity must not exceed 100 feet of 1.75-inch hose or its equivalent volume.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Visually inspect the pack before leaving the apparatus. Confirm both Velcro closure straps are fully secured and the nozzle is correctly positioned at the Quick-Deploy End.

2. TRANSPORT TO STAGING AREA: Carry the pack to the designated staging floor using the central handle in hallways and wide corridors. Transition to the shoulder strap on stairwells to keep both hands free for tools and handrails.

3. ADVANCE TO DROP POINT: Move the pack to the standpipe connection floor. Do not drop or throw the pack at any point, as impact can shift the hose load and cause a deployment failure.

4. POSITION THE PACK: Place the pack on the floor at the drop point with the Quick-Deploy End oriented toward the intended direction of hose advancement, facing the fire attack stairwell door or target corridor.

5. EXPOSE THE SUPPLY COUPLING: Open the standpipe-side end flap and remove only 2 to 3 feet of hose to expose the female coupling. Do not pull additional hose from the pack at this stage.

6. CONNECT TO STANDPIPE: Confirm the standpipe valve is fully closed before connecting. Thread the female coupling onto the standpipe outlet and tighten with a spanner wrench.

7. CLEAR THE DEPLOYMENT PATH: Inspect the area in front of the Quick-Deploy End. Remove any debris, furniture, or equipment that could snag the hose as it pays out.

8. OPEN THE DEPLOYMENT END: Unfasten the Quick-Deploy End flap completely. This is the point of no return for the hose load. Ensure the team is in position before proceeding.

9. GRASP THE NOZZLE AND ADVANCE: Reach into the pack, grasp the nozzle and the first few feet of hose, and move toward the fire area. The pack acts as an anchor point and the hose pays out smoothly as the team advances.

10. CALL FOR WATER AND CLEAR THE LINE: When the team is in position and the path is confirmed clear, call for the line to be charged. The last firefighter in the advance clears any remaining hose from the pack as they move past the drop point.

11. POST-OPERATION CLEANING AND INSPECTION: After use, completely remove all hose and debris from the interior. Wash the pack with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly, and hang it upside down to drain through the grommets. Confirm the pack is completely dry before reloading to prevent mildew.

12. MONTHLY READINESS INSPECTION: Inspect the vinyl body for rips, tears, punctures, or chemical degradation. Check all webbing handles and strap loops for fraying or torn stitching. Test the Velcro closure straps for strong, positive engagement. Confirm all three brass grommets are present, secure, and clear of debris.
