Quick Overview

The R&B Model 376 Vertical MOLLE Utility Pouch is a 1000 Denier Cordura nylon side-mount storage component that attaches to PALS grids on tactical medical backpacks and plate carriers, enabling operators to stage mission-critical airway adjuncts, tourniquets, and auto-injectors for immediate external access under stress.

The Model 376 is engineered to utilize the narrow vertical PALS columns typically found on the sides of platforms such as the R&B #371 medical backpack. Its internal dimensions of 6 inches by 3.5 inches by 3 inches are optimized for tall, narrow items that cannot be efficiently staged in standard horizontal pouches. By segregating critical equipment from the main pack compartment, the pouch reduces search time during high-threat operations where seconds determine outcomes.

Attachment is achieved through two integrated vertical webbing straps with terminal snap closures, requiring correct alternating weave through both the platform PALS grid and the pouch's own loops. Proper weaving distributes load evenly and eliminates pouch movement during dynamic activity. Security of the entire system is dependent on correct interweaving. An improperly woven pouch becomes a snag hazard and a liability in the field.

The #10 YKK AquaGuard zipper provides water-repellent closure operable with or without gloves, though it is not rated for submersion. Mission-critical electronics and sterile medical items must be sealed in a certified waterproof inner bag before staging in this pouch. The pouch is a non-sterile container, and operators must remain within their certified scope of practice when configuring and deploying medical contents.

Field Application Steps

1. PLATFORM ASSESSMENT: Confirm the target attachment location has at least 2 vertical columns and 3 horizontal rows of PALS webbing available. Verify that placement does not restrict range of motion, access to the sidearm or radio, or the ability to navigate confined spaces.

2. POUCH ALIGNMENT: Align the top of the Model 376 with the highest desired row of PALS webbing on the platform. This sets the vertical position for the entire attachment sequence before threading begins.

3. STRAP WEAVING: Feed the first strap downward through the first PALS loop on the platform, then back upward through the first PALS loop on the back of the pouch. Continue the alternating weave in the sequence platform, pouch, platform, pouch until the strap is fully threaded. Repeat for the second strap, maintaining even tension across both.

4. SNAP ENGAGEMENT: Secure the terminal snap at the end of each strap. Pull firmly on the pouch body in multiple directions to confirm the connection is taut and completely free of play before loading any contents.

5. LOAD PLANNING: Select items sized appropriately for the 6 inch by 3.5 inch by 3 inch interior, prioritizing tall and narrow items such as laryngoscope handles, ET tubes, tourniquets, auto-injectors, or flashlights. Use internal organizers or elastic keepers to prevent contents from shifting under movement.

6. STAGING BY PRIORITY: Place items in the order of anticipated use, with the first-needed item positioned for the most immediate access. Mission-critical electronics and sterile items must be placed in a certified waterproof inner bag before insertion into the pouch.

7. CLOSURE AND WEATHER PROTECTION: Close the YKK AquaGuard zipper along its full length before deployment. Confirm the pull tab is secure and positively locatable by feel alone, without visual reference.

8. ACCESS DRILLS: Conduct repeated access drills with the pouch mounted and fully loaded. Perform drills with both the dominant and non-dominant hand, and with gloves on, until retrieval of each staged item is reliable by feel alone under simulated stress conditions.

9. PRE-OPERATIONAL INSPECTION: Before each deployment, inspect the Cordura body for rips, tears, or abrasion damage. Check all seams and MOLLE strap attachment points for thread separation, operate the zipper along its full length to confirm function, and open and close each snap to verify positive engagement and retention.

10. POST-OPERATIONAL CLEANING: Empty the pouch completely and remove loose debris with a stiff brush. If heavily soiled, clean with mild soap and water using a brush on the zipper track, rinse thoroughly, and air dry completely before returning the pouch to service. Do not machine wash or machine dry.
