Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications Model 380 Outside Side Pocket is a 1000D Cordura MOLLE-compatible flap-closure pouch used by operators and field medics to store mission-critical equipment externally on a pack, vest, or belt for immediate access in austere environments.

The Model 380 is purpose-built for environments where zipper-based closures fail. Its full-coverage flap and 1-inch side-release buckle provide a positive mechanical seal resistant to sand, mud, and ice ingress while enabling rapid, one-handed access without fine motor skill demands. The adjustable retention strap compresses the load to minimize item shift and reduce noise signature during movement. Recommended loadouts include large-format pressure dressings, tourniquets, handheld tactical radios, IV bags, and survival components.

Mounting integrity is the single most critical factor in field deployment. The integrated vertical PALS/MOLLE straps must be interwoven correctly through the platform grid in a tight alternating pattern, with bottom anchor snaps confirmed to a positive click at each strap terminus. A physical pull-test from all angles is required after mounting. Incorrectly woven straps are the primary cause of pouch detachment and mission-critical equipment loss.

The flap closure is highly weather-resistant but is not a waterproof seal. Sensitive electronics and sterile medical items requiring a complete moisture barrier must be placed in a secondary dry bag before loading. Excess adjustment strap length must be secured with tape, a rubber band, or a strap keeper to eliminate snag hazards during dynamic movement.

Field Application Steps

1. SELECT MOUNTING LOCATION: Identify a section of PALS webbing on the host platform that is a minimum of 2 columns wide and 4 rows high to accommodate both vertical MOLLE straps fully.

2. PREPARE STRAPS: Unsnap the bottom anchor snaps on both vertical straps at the rear of the pouch to free them for weaving.

3. WEAVE FIRST STRAP: Starting at the top, thread the strap under the first row of platform PALS webbing, then under the first webbing loop on the pouch itself. Continue this alternating pattern to the end of the strap. The weave must be tight with no slack.

4. SECURE FIRST STRAP: Route the strap end through the final platform loop and fasten the bottom anchor snap. Confirm a positive, audible click.

5. WEAVE AND SECURE SECOND STRAP: Repeat the full weave and snap sequence for the second MOLLE strap using the same alternating pattern.

6. PERFORM RETENTION CHECK: Aggressively pull the mounted pouch upward, downward, and away from the platform. There should be no significant play or movement. If movement is detected, re-weave the affected strap before proceeding.

7. OPEN AND LOAD: Disengage the side-release buckle and fold back the flap. Insert designated equipment with logical staging: tourniquet on top for medical loadouts, antenna path clear for radio loadouts. Ensure no contents obstruct the flap from closing fully.

8. CLOSE AND SECURE: Fold the flap down so it fully covers the pouch opening without catching on any contents. Engage the male and female ends of the side-release buckle until an audible and tactile click is confirmed.

9. COMPRESS AND STOW EXCESS STRAP: Pull the loose end of the adjustable strap to cinch down contents and stabilize the load. Secure any excess strap length with tape, a rubber band, or a dedicated strap keeper to eliminate snag hazards.
