Quick Overview

The Rothco 600 Lumen Rechargeable LED Headlamp is a hands-free personal illumination tool used by operators, first responders, and field personnel who require directed or area lighting while keeping both hands fully available for patient care, technical work, or navigation.

The headlamp delivers 600 lumens through a Central CPE LED spotlight and Dual Side COB LEDs, cycling across five modes: High, Low, Red, Lantern, and Strobe. The CPE spotlight provides a focused beam effective up to 50 meters for navigation and search tasks, while the wide-flood Lantern Mode supports close-quarters assessment, medical aid, and team coordination. Red Light Mode preserves scotopic night vision and reduces visible signature, making it the correct selection for light-discipline environments or operations alongside personnel running night vision devices.

The integrated IR Motion Sensor enables touchless activation and deactivation, a critical capability when hands are gloved, contaminated with fluids, or occupied with a patient. Before gloving up, the operator arms the sensor with a single button press. A hand wave within 2 to 5 inches of the sensor then toggles the light without breaking sterile field or compromising the device.

Operational runtime ranges from 3 to 6 hours depending on mode, with High output depleting the internal lithium-ion battery in approximately 3 hours. The battery is non-swappable, making pre-deployment charge confirmation a non-negotiable readiness step. The IP4X rating provides splash and weather resistance but does not support submersion. Carrying a portable USB power bank extends field deployment capability on extended operations.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT CHARGE CONFIRMATION: Inspect the charging status indicator near the Micro-USB port. Confirm a full charge, indicated by a green or blue light, before any deployment. Do not field the headlamp on a partial charge if a full charge is achievable.

2. PRE-MISSION INSPECTION: Cycle through all five light modes to confirm every emitter is operational. Inspect the housing and lens for cracks or deep scratches, check elastic straps for fraying or loss of elasticity, verify plastic buckles are intact, and confirm the rubber charging port cover is present, pliable, and sealing correctly.

3. MOUNTING AND FIT: Secure the headlamp using all three strap adjustment points for a non-slip fit over a bare head, cap, or helmet. Engage the top strap, as it is critical for preventing unit slippage during high-tempo movement. Tilt the housing to a neutral forward-facing beam position.

4. NAVIGATION AND INITIAL APPROACH: Press the Primary Power Button once to activate the unit. Cycle to High Mode to engage the CPE LED spotlight. Use this mode to navigate the scene, identify hazards, and locate a patient or objective from a distance of up to 50 meters.

5. CLOSE-CONTACT ASSESSMENT: Upon reaching the patient or work area, cycle to Lantern Mode to engage the Dual Side COB LEDs. This wide, shadow-reducing flood light supports head-to-toe patient assessment without blinding the subject. Tilt the beam downward as needed using the 90-degree tilting mount.

6. ENGAGE HANDS-FREE MODE: Before gloving up, press the Motion Sensor Activation Button once. Confirm the indicator light illuminates, signaling standby state. With gloves on, wave a hand 2 to 5 inches in front of the IR sensor to toggle the light on or off without physical button contact.

7. PRESERVE NIGHT VISION IF REQUIRED: If personnel are operating with night vision devices or light discipline is required, manually cycle to Red Light Mode. This mode provides sufficient close-task illumination while minimizing visible signature and protecting dark adaptation.

8. DEACTIVATE SENSOR FOR STEALTH OPERATIONS: In any environment requiring stealth, disable the motion sensor entirely and revert to manual button operation. Default to Red Light Mode as the primary working light to avoid unintentional light discharge that would compromise position.

9. POST-OPERATION STOWAGE: Press and hold the Primary Power Button to fully power down the unit from any active mode. This step prevents parasitic battery drain from sensor standby. Clean the housing with a water-dampened cloth, use microfiber on the LED lenses, and recharge at the first available opportunity.
