Quick Overview

The Rothco MOLLE Double Pistol Mag Pouch is a MOLLE/PALS-compatible retention pouch designed for secure, low-rattle carriage of two standard-capacity pistol magazines, used by tactical law enforcement, military personnel, and trained civilian operators requiring reliable emergency reload capability.

The pouch is built around an integrated hard plastic friction insert system that serves as its primary retention mechanism. These inserts apply constant light pressure against loaded magazines to eliminate rattle during dynamic movement, and they maintain the structural integrity of each compartment opening to enable one-handed re-indexing without visual reference. This capability is critical in field environments where both hands are occupied or eyes must remain on the threat.

The closure system operates on two levels of security. A hook-and-loop flap provides rapid access under standard conditions and is adjustable in length to accommodate magazines of varying height. A metal snap reinforces the flap as a secondary positive-locking mechanism, providing the highest level of retention available on the pouch during high-impact activities such as climbing, jumping, or crawling. For range and training environments where speed is prioritized over security, the flap can be folded and secured to the external loop field, leaving the friction inserts as the sole retention source.

Platform integration is achieved through two vertical rear MOLLE straps with snap closures, designed to interface with standard PALS webbing on plate carriers, chest rigs, and load-bearing belts. Correct alternating weave technique through both LBE and pouch webbing is required for a flush, immobile mount. A pouch that moves under load is a point of failure and a snag hazard.

Field Application Steps

1. IDENTIFY MOUNTING LOCATION: Select two adjacent vertical columns of PALS webbing on your load-bearing equipment. The location must allow an ergonomic, repeatable draw-stroke with your support hand without blocking access to other critical equipment.

2. EXECUTE INITIAL WEAVE: Thread both rear MOLLE straps downward through the top loop of the selected PALS webbing columns on the LBE. Ensure both straps are fully engaged before proceeding.

3. COMPLETE ALTERNATE WEAVE: Weave each strap back through the first loop of webbing on the pouch itself. Continue alternating between LBE webbing and pouch webbing until the full length of each strap is consumed.

4. SECURE MOLLE STRAP SNAPS: Fasten the metal snap at the end of each MOLLE strap. The pouch must sit flush and completely immobile against the LBE surface. Pull firmly on the pouch to verify attachment integrity before deployment.

5. LOAD AND CONFIGURE MAGAZINES: For field operations, insert each magazine fully until the baseplate is accessible at the top of the compartment. Close the hook-and-loop flap with maximum contact area, then engage the metal snap for the highest level of retention. For range use, fold the flap back and secure it to the external loop field on the front of the pouch, relying on the friction inserts alone.

6. ACQUIRE GRIP ON RELOAD: Move your support hand to the pouch and index your fingers on the magazine baseplate. Establish a firm, consistent grip position before initiating the draw.

7. DEFEAT THE CLOSURE: Use a thumb sweep upward to disengage the metal snap first. Then break the hook-and-loop seal by pulling the flap open. The metal snap must be cleared before the flap will release fully.

8. DRAW THE MAGAZINE: Grasp the magazine firmly and draw straight up and out of the compartment. The friction insert will provide consistent resistance throughout the draw stroke.

9. RE-INDEX THE MAGAZINE: To return a magazine to the pouch without visual reference, guide the top of the magazine to the structured pouch opening by feel. The hard plastic insert prevents compartment collapse, allowing smooth one-handed insertion until the magazine is fully seated.
