Quick Overview

The Rothco MOLLE Modular Ambidextrous Holster is a soft-shell, MOLLE-compatible sidearm carriage system that operators mount directly to plate carriers, battle belts, chest rigs, or assault packs to maintain unobstructed access to a large-frame semi-automatic pistol in tactical, training, and vehicle-based environments.

The holster's platform attachment system uses two independent woven MOLLE straps with metal snap button closures that thread through standard PALS webbing in an alternating pattern. When properly woven, the system produces zero vertical or horizontal play, providing a stable, non-shifting mount across all load-bearing platforms. This modularity allows operators to reposition the holster across gear configurations without specialized tools or permanent modification to the carrier.

Retention is achieved through an elastic shock cord that loops over the pistol grip or slide, providing Level I protection against weapon loss during dynamic movement such as running or climbing. The design is user-configurable for right-hand or left-hand draw by re-threading the MOLLE straps to either side of the holster's rear PALS grid. An integrated exterior magazine pouch with an adjustable hook-and-loop flap provides immediate access to one spare pistol magazine.

Operators must confirm two critical fitment conditions before deployment. First, the holster's fabric must fully cover the trigger guard with no possibility of trigger manipulation through the material. Second, the universal soft-shell design relies on friction and the retention cord rather than a rigid molded fit, so the operator is solely responsible for verifying a secure fit for their specific firearm prior to fielding.

Field Application Steps

1. WEAPON AND WORKSPACE PREPARATION: Move to a designated safe area and unload the firearm per established safety protocols. Verify visually and physically that the chamber is empty and the magazine is removed before handling the holster.

2. HOLSTER CONFIGURATION FOR DRAW HAND: Determine your draw hand and orient the holster so the elastic shock cord retention pull-tab is accessible to the thumb of your dominant hand. Unsnap and fully remove both MOLLE straps from their current position.

3. STRAP RE-THREADING FOR AMBIDEXTROUS SETUP: Re-thread the two MOLLE straps onto the side of the holster body that will sit flush against the PALS platform, correctly oriented for the intended draw direction. Confirm the straps are seated properly in the holster's rear PALS grid before proceeding.

4. MOLLE ATTACHMENT TO PLATFORM: Identify your mounting location on the plate carrier or load-bearing platform, ensuring a full firing grip and clean draw path that does not interfere with other essential gear. Weave the top strap through the platform PALS webbing and corresponding holster webbing in a strict alternating pattern, then fasten the snap button. Repeat for the second strap.

5. ATTACHMENT INTEGRITY VERIFICATION: Physically tug the holster in all directions. A correctly mounted holster will have zero vertical or horizontal play before the weapon is inserted.

6. TRIGGER GUARD COVERAGE CHECK: Insert the cleared firearm into the holster and confirm that the holster fabric fully and rigidly covers the trigger guard with no access to the trigger through the material. If the trigger can be manipulated or is exposed, this holster is unsafe for use with that firearm and must not be fielded.

7. RETENTION ADJUSTMENT: With the cleared firearm fully seated, stretch the elastic shock cord over the back of the grip or slide. Tension should be snug enough to prevent shake-out during movement, but releasable with a clean single thumb-snap. If tension is insufficient, re-tie the knot at the base of the shock cord or replace the cord if worn.

8. AMMUNITION STOWAGE: Insert the unloaded magazine into the integrated exterior magazine pouch. Adjust the hook-and-loop retention flap to achieve a secure fit over the magazine baseplate, tight enough to prevent loss during dynamic movement.

9. FUNCTION CHECK AND DRAW REHEARSAL: Don the plate carrier with the holster and cleared firearm mounted. Perform multiple slow, deliberate practice draws, focusing on achieving a full firing grip, releasing the shock cord cleanly with the thumb, and presenting without snagging on gear or clothing. Practice re-holstering and re-securing the retention cord until the sequence is consistent and reliable before proceeding to live-fire training under instructor supervision.
