Quick Overview

The First Aid Only 151-Piece First Responder Kit is a comprehensive hemorrhage control and trauma management system designed for trained workplace emergency responders, field personnel, and sports team operators who must stabilize patients until EMS arrives.

The kit provides layered capability for bleeding control through six Hema-Seal 8x10 Trauma Pads, each packaged with a 4-inch by 4-yard gauze roll and nitrile gloves for immediate deployment. Five additional sterile trauma pads in 8x10 and 5x9 configurations, 26 sterile gauze pads, and three conforming gauze rolls extend that capability across a range of wound types and sizes. A single 12x30-inch trauma dressing covers extensive injuries including large abrasions, avulsions, and burns requiring torso or multi-limb coverage.

Beyond hemorrhage control, the kit supports shock management, burn care, eye injury response, and patient stabilization. An emergency blanket, triangular bandages, elastic wraps, and cold packs give the operator tools to address secondary injuries and prevent deterioration while awaiting definitive care. Sterile eyewash in 16oz and 4oz bottles, a Burn Jel bottle, and sterile eye pads provide a credible response capability for chemical exposure and thermal burn scenarios.

Operators must understand the kit's defined limits before deployment. It does not contain a tourniquet and cannot manage catastrophic arterial bleeding from a limb. It contains no mechanical airway adjuncts and no chest seals. Readiness depends on quarterly inspection against a five-point checklist and immediate resupply following any use. No partially stocked kit should be returned to service.

Field Application Steps

1. SCENE SAFETY AND BSI: Confirm the scene is clear of immediate hazards before approaching the patient. Open the kit and don nitrile gloves before any patient contact.

2. INITIAL PATIENT ASSESSMENT: Introduce yourself and state your training level to the patient. Rapidly identify hemorrhage as the critical priority and observe for shock indicators including pallor, anxiety, and cool skin.

3. HEMORRHAGE CONTROL - DIRECT PRESSURE: Instruct the patient to self-apply pressure if capable while you open a Hema-Seal Trauma Pad. Place the pad directly over the wound and apply firm pressure using the heel of your hand for 3 to 5 minutes.

4. HEMORRHAGE CONTROL - WRAP AND SECURE: Wrap the wound using the attached 4-inch gauze roll, wrapping distal to proximal to drive blood back toward the core. If bleeding saturates the first dressing, do not remove it. Apply a second Hema-Seal pad directly on top and re-wrap with increased pressure.

5. SHOCK MANAGEMENT: Position the patient flat and elevate the legs if no spinal or lower extremity injury is suspected. Unfold the 52x84-inch emergency blanket and wrap the patient completely, tucking the edges underneath to prevent convective heat loss.

6. SECONDARY ASSESSMENT: Perform a systematic head-to-toe assessment to identify any additional injuries not addressed in the initial response. Use shears to cut away clothing as needed to expose and evaluate wounds.

7. ONGOING MONITORING: Reassure the patient and monitor mental status and vital signs continuously until EMS arrives. Note any changes in condition and be prepared to report them accurately at handover.

8. HANDOVER TO EMS: Provide a concise verbal report covering mechanism of injury, injuries found, treatment provided, and patient response to treatment. Transfer care and remain available for follow-up questions.

9. POST-INCIDENT CLEANUP: Place all used dressings, contaminated gloves, and soiled materials into the 24x24-inch biohazard bag. Seal the bag and dispose of it according to your organization's biohazardous waste protocol.

10. RESUPPLY: Document all items consumed during the response and submit a resupply request to the designated authority immediately. Do not return the kit to its designated station until it is fully restocked to all 151 components.
