The kit provides a bridge capability covering three distinct wound categories: extremity bleeding managed with a windlass tourniquet, junctional bleeding at the neck, armpit, or groin addressed with hemostatic gauze and pressure dressing, and penetrating thoracic trauma sealed with occlusive chest seals. Every component is grouped by operational purpose so a responder can identify and deploy the correct protocol under stress without prior equipment familiarity.

The deployment protocol follows a four-step sequence: confirm scene safety and don nitrile gloves for body substance isolation, identify the most severe bleeding source using bandage shears to expose the wound, execute the appropriate bleeding control protocol for the wound location, then manage the casualty for shock using the emergency blanket and prepare a concise handoff report for EMS. Tourniquet application time must be documented on the time strap or the casualty's forehead using the included marker, as this data is critical for surgical teams receiving the casualty.

Readiness sustainment requires monthly inspection covering visual condition, tamper-evident seal integrity, full contents verification, expiration dates on hemostatic gauze and chest seals, and packaging integrity on all sterile items. After any use, the station must be taken out of service immediately and returned to full inventory before redeployment. Formal Stop the Bleed training is strongly advised for all personnel who may access this station.

Field Application Steps

1. CONFIRM SCENE SAFETY: Verify the immediate area is clear of ongoing threats including active machinery, fire, or a perpetrator before approaching the casualty. Do not initiate any medical intervention until the scene is confirmed secure.

2. DON PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Open the station, retrieve the two nitrile exam gloves, and put them on before making any contact with the casualty. Body substance isolation is your first action, not an afterthought.

3. IDENTIFY THE BLEEDING SOURCE: Rapidly assess the casualty for spurting blood, blood-soaked clothing, or pooling blood to locate the most severe wound. Use the bandage shears to cut away clothing and fully expose the injury site.

4. ARM OR LEG WOUND: APPLY WINDLASS TOURNIQUET: Place the windlass tourniquet as high as possible on the injured limb, "high and tight" toward the torso. Tighten the windlass rod until bleeding stops completely, secure the rod in the clip, and secure the strap over the clip.

5. ARM OR LEG WOUND: DOCUMENT TOURNIQUET TIME: Using the included marker, write the time of tourniquet application on the time strap in the format T: 1430. If the time strap is inaccessible, write the time on the casualty's forehead. This information is critical for receiving surgical personnel.

6. JUNCTIONAL WOUND: PACK WITH HEMOSTATIC GAUZE: For bleeding at the neck, armpit, or groin where a tourniquet cannot be applied, open the hemostatic gauze packaging and pack the gauze directly into the wound. Apply firm, continuous, heavy direct pressure to the bleeding source once packed.

7. JUNCTIONAL WOUND: SECURE WITH PRESSURE DRESSING: Place the Israeli bandage or trauma pad over the packed wound to maintain constant pressure on the site. The Israeli bandage's integrated pressure bar focuses mechanical force directly onto the wound.

8. CHEST WOUND: APPLY CHEST SEAL: Wipe blood and fluid from the skin surrounding the penetrating chest wound to ensure a clean surface. Peel the backing from one chest seal and press it firmly over the wound, centered on the entry point.

9. CHEST WOUND: CHECK FOR EXIT WOUND: Roll or examine the casualty's back and sides for a corresponding exit wound. If an exit wound is present, apply the second chest seal using the same technique.

10. MANAGE FOR SHOCK: Unfold the emergency blanket and cover the casualty to prevent heat loss and treat for shock. Reassure the casualty that help is on the way and do not provide food or water.

11. HAND OFF TO EMS: On EMS arrival, deliver a clear and concise report that includes the tourniquet application time, wound locations, and all treatments applied. Inform EMS if a hemostatic agent was used, as this is a mandatory transfer of care requirement.
