Quick Overview

A bleeding control wall station is a fixed, public-access emergency resource containing hemorrhage control tools that enables bystanders to manage life-threatening external bleeding from extremities until EMS personnel assume care.

The Luminary Global Bleeding Control Wall Station (P/N 91311) is a field-ready deployment asset designed for bystander use as a bridge to professional medical care. Its capability is scoped specifically to life-threatening external hemorrhage from arms and legs. The kit contains two tourniquets, a Hema-Seal Trauma Dressing, a Trauma Pad, nitrile exam gloves, bandage shears, a permanent marker, an emergency blanket, and a printed reference card. Each component serves a defined operational purpose within a structured response protocol.

The deployment protocol follows a six-step sequence: scene safety and EMS notification, PPE donning, wound exposure and assessment, direct pressure application, tourniquet escalation if direct pressure fails, and shock management. The windlass tourniquet is applied 2 to 3 inches above the wound, tightened until bleeding stops completely, locked, and documented with the exact time of application. Tourniquet removal is restricted to medical professionals only.

Readiness sustainment requires monthly inspections by a designated responsible person, covering case integrity, tamper-evident seal status, component presence, packaging condition, and expiration dates on sterile items. The kit is single-use. After any item is removed or deployed, the entire station must be replaced with a complete new kit. Piecemeal resupply is prohibited because it creates unacceptable risk of missing or incorrect components at the point of need.

Field Application Steps

1. ENSURE SCENE SAFETY: Confirm the environment is safe before approaching the casualty. Mitigate the hazard if possible, such as shutting down machinery, and do not enter an unsafe scene under any circumstances.

2. CALL 911 AND LOCATE THE KIT: Contact emergency services immediately and provide your exact location and injury type. Retrieve the Bleeding Control Wall Station case from the wall mount and open it on a stable surface.

3. DON NITRILE EXAM GLOVES: Put on the nitrile exam gloves before making any contact with the casualty. This is a non-negotiable first step and your primary barrier against bloodborne pathogens.

4. EXPOSE AND ASSESS THE WOUND: Use the bandage shears to cut away all clothing covering the injury site. Identify the source of the most severe bleeding and assess whether it is life-threatening, indicated by spurting blood, continuous flow, rapid pooling, or amputation.

5. APPLY DIRECT PRESSURE: Place the Trauma Pad or Hema-Seal Trauma Dressing directly on the bleeding site. Apply firm, continuous pressure with both hands and body weight, and do not release pressure to check the wound. Hold until EMS arrives or transfer to another available responder.

6. APPLY WINDLASS TOURNIQUET IF DIRECT PRESSURE FAILS: Position the tourniquet 2 to 3 inches above the wound. Never place it on a joint or directly on the wound. Pull the strap through the buckle as tightly as possible and secure it back on itself.

7. TIGHTEN THE WINDLASS ROD: Turn the windlass rod until bleeding stops completely. Expect significant pain from the casualty. Continue tightening until bleeding is fully controlled, not merely reduced.

8. SECURE AND DOCUMENT THE TOURNIQUET: Lock the windlass rod into the clip and secure the remaining strap over the clip. Write the exact time of application on the tourniquet's time strap using the permanent marker, for example "T-14:30."

9. MANAGE FOR SHOCK: Lay the casualty flat once bleeding is controlled. Cover them with the emergency blanket to prevent heat loss and mitigate hypothermia, which is a critical component of shock treatment.

10. MAINTAIN CARE UNTIL EMS ARRIVES: Continuously reassure the casualty and monitor their condition. Do not provide food or water. Do not remove or loosen the tourniquet. Only a medical professional is authorized to remove it.
