Quick Overview

The First Aid Only Medium First Responder Kit Refill Pack (SKU 510-FR/REFILL) is a structured resupply loadout that restores a depleted first responder bag to full operational readiness, enabling trained operators to manage bleeding, musculoskeletal injuries, and environmental threats at the point of incident.

The refill pack organizes its components by operational purpose across four categories: bleeding control and major wound management, minor wound care and splinting, tools and PPE, and antiseptics and topicals. Primary bleeding control capability comes from the Hema-Seal 8x10 Trauma Pad with integrated gauze roll, supplemented by two 5x9 trauma pads, one 8x10 trauma pad, and 28 sterile gauze pads in three sizes. Three triangular bandages provide versatile splinting and immobilization capacity, while three 2-inch sterile gauze rolls and one adhesive tape roll secure dressings under field conditions.

PPE and environmental control components are included to protect both responder and patient throughout the care sequence. Two pairs of nitrile exam gloves establish Body Substance Isolation before any patient contact. A 52x84-inch emergency Mylar blanket addresses hypothermia risk in trauma patients, and a biohazard bag with two resealable bags ensures proper containment of contaminated materials post-deployment.

This pack does not contain a tourniquet, advanced hemostatic agents, airway adjuncts, or medications. It supplies a basic life support loadout and is intended for operators acting within their certified scope of practice. Readiness sustainment requires monthly visual inspection and quarterly expiration date audits, with immediate replenishment after every deployment regardless of the scale of use.

Field Application Steps

1. SCENE SAFETY AND BSI ESTABLISHMENT: Verbally confirm the scene is clear of hazards before entering. Open your response bag and don a pair of nitrile exam gloves before making any patient contact. This step is non-negotiable regardless of incident severity.

2. INITIAL PATIENT ASSESSMENT: Approach the patient, introduce yourself, and obtain consent to treat. Use the 7.25-inch shears to cut away clothing or materials obstructing the injury site, exposing wounds fully for accurate severity assessment. Visually inspect all affected areas before committing to a treatment sequence.

3. BLEEDING CONTROL: Select the appropriate dressing based on wound size. Apply a 5x9 trauma pad or stacked 4x4 sterile gauze pads directly to the wound and hold firm, direct pressure. Secure the dressing using a 2-inch sterile gauze roll and triple cut adhesive tape once bleeding is controlled.

4. WOUND CLEANING AND DRESSING FOR MINOR INJURIES: Use alcohol wipes or povidone-iodine wipes to disinfect intact skin around the wound perimeter only. Do not introduce either antiseptic directly into open, deep, or actively bleeding wounds. Apply an appropriately sized adhesive bandage or sterile gauze pad and secure with tape.

5. MUSCULOSKELETAL INJURY MANAGEMENT: Treat any suspected fracture or dislocation as confirmed until evaluated by EMS. Fashion one triangular bandage into a sling to support the injured limb, then use a second triangular bandage as a swathe, wrapping it around the patient's torso and the slung arm to immobilize the injury site.

6. HYPOTHERMIA PREVENTION: Unfold the 52x84-inch emergency Mylar blanket and drape it over the patient to reflect body heat. Apply this protocol to all trauma patients regardless of ambient temperature, as shock can produce rapid heat loss even in temperate environments.

7. SPECIALIZED INJURY PROTOCOLS: For eye injuries, place a sterile eye pad over the affected eye and secure with tape or gauze roll. Do not apply pressure directly to the globe. For minor thermal burns, apply burn gel from one of the three 1/8-oz packets. For eye contamination, flush with the 4-oz sterile eyewash directing flow from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye.

8. POST-CARE DECONTAMINATION AND DOCUMENTATION: Remove gloves carefully and place all used materials including gauze wrappers, blood-contaminated pads, and used gloves into the biohazard bag for proper disposal. Document every expended item immediately and initiate replenishment. A partially stocked kit is an unreliable kit.
