Quick Overview

This kit provides the tools for a trained bystander to control life-threatening hemorrhage from limb, junctional, or torso injuries, specifically meeting Texas House Bill 496 requirements. It is designed for immediate, pre-hospital intervention to stabilize a casualty until professional medical services arrive.

Field Application Steps

  1. Verify scene safety, call 9-1-1, and don protective gloves.
  2. Expose the wound by cutting away clothing to identify the source of severe bleeding.
  3. For catastrophic limb bleeding, apply the windlass tourniquet high and tight; tighten until bleeding stops and record the time.
  4. For junctional or torso wounds, pack the wound with hemostatic gauze and apply a pressure dressing.
  5. For a penetrating chest wound, apply a non-vented chest seal over the injury to create a seal.
  6. Treat for shock using the rescue blanket and prepare for a concise hand-off to arriving EMS personnel.
