Quick Overview

The Fold Flat Stove is a multi-fuel portable cooking platform designed for field operations, emergency preparedness, and off-grid sustenance heating, enabling operators to boil water and prepare meals using canned heat or scavenged biomass when resupply is not possible.

The stove's principal capability is fuel versatility. It accepts canned heat fuel cells such as Sterno for controlled, low-signature operations, or transitions to scavenged biomass including dry twigs, bark, and pinecones to extend operational duration indefinitely. This dual-fuel design makes it a field-ready solution for 72-hour kits, vehicle preparedness systems, and sustained deployments where resupply cannot be guaranteed. The solid-wall aluminum construction doubles as an integrated windscreen, maintaining flame stability in conditions that would extinguish conventional open-fire setups.

The stove deploys from a flat-folded state in seconds. Five hinged aluminum panels unfold and lock into a rigid, box-shaped firebox via machined locking tabs and slots. The 6.5 by 6.5 inch top cooking surface rim accommodates cookware with a base diameter up to approximately 8 inches, supporting pots and metal canteens that exceed the capacity of lightweight backpacking stoves. The base plate elevates fuel from ground contact, preventing moisture absorption and concentrating radiant heat upward toward the cookware.

Safe protocol requires deployment on level, non-combustible surfaces with a minimum 10-foot cleared radius and an immediately available suppression method. Biomass fuel use is strictly prohibited in any enclosed space due to lethal carbon monoxide production. After operation, the stove must cool completely to ambient temperature before handling, as aluminum transfers heat efficiently and contact with a prematurely handled unit will cause serious burns.

Field Application Steps

1. SELECT AND PREPARE YOUR SITE: Identify a level, stable surface of bare mineral soil, gravel, or rock. Clear a minimum 10-foot radius of all flammable material and confirm a fire suppression method, such as water, sand, or a fire extinguisher, is immediately at hand.

2. ASSEMBLE THE STOVE: Remove the stove from storage and unfold the hinged aluminum panels outward. Raise all four side walls until they are perpendicular to the base plate, then engage the locking tabs into their corresponding slots to form a rigid box. Confirm the structure does not wobble before proceeding.

3. LOAD YOUR FUEL SOURCE: For canned heat, remove the lid from the fuel cell and place it centered on the base plate. For biomass, place a small, loose bundle of tinder at the center of the base plate, then arrange pencil-thick kindling over it in a teepee or log-cabin formation, leaving adequate space for airflow.

4. IGNITE AND ESTABLISH THE FIRE: Using a lighter, ferrocerium rod, or match, ignite the tinder or canned fuel wick. If using biomass, allow the kindling to catch fully before introducing thumb-thick fuel wood. Feed additional sticks through the side fuel port as needed to maintain steady, controlled heat. The objective is a consistent flame, not a large fire.

5. PLACE COOKWARE AND MONITOR THE OPERATION: Once the flame is stable or a hot coal bed has formed, carefully center your cookware on the top cooking surface rim. Ensure the pot or pan is balanced and stable throughout. Do not leave the stove unattended at any point during operation.

6. SHUT DOWN AND ALLOW COOLING: Remove cookware once the heating task is complete. Allow the fuel source to burn out fully and do not attempt to pack up while embers remain glowing. Do not touch the aluminum structure until it has cooled completely to ambient temperature, as premature contact will cause serious burns.

7. CLEAN AND STOW: Once the stove is confirmed cool, invert it to empty all ash and residue. Use a stiff brush or non-abrasive scouring pad to remove soot from the panels. Ensure the stove is completely dry, then disengage the locking tabs, fold flat, and store in a canvas or nylon pouch, separated from other gear.
