The G.I. individual insect net is constructed from 100% polyester fine mesh treated for both flame resistance and mildew resistance, making it a field-ready barrier capable of withstanding prolonged deployment in high-humidity, tropical, and jungle environments. The 200-inch by 72-inch perimeter provides significant excess material beyond standard military cot coverage, enabling a complete 360-degree ground seal when the skirting is tucked under a mattress or weighted with equipment. Six reinforced tie-tapes serve as the structural attachment points for suspension from a cot frame, overhead ridgeline, or field-expedient anchor system.

Barrier integrity is the operational foundation of this system. A single hole or gap in the perimeter seal constitutes total system failure, rendering the net ineffective against crawling insects. Operators must inspect the net before each deployment by holding it up to a light source to identify any holes, tears, or seam separations, and carry a field repair kit including needle and thread or gear repair tape at all times.

Operator readiness depends on correct sealing and disciplined entry protocol. The net provides no protection from precipitation or wind and must be used inside an existing shelter in adverse weather. DEET and other solvent-based repellents must never be applied directly to the netting, as these chemicals degrade polyester fibers and strip the net's protective treatments.
