Quick Overview

The Guardian 3-Shelf First Aid Cabinet is a fixed, centralized workplace first aid station that enables designated responders, safety officers, and facility managers to deliver ANSI/ISEA Z308.1-2015 Class A compliant care for common workplace injuries until professional EMS assumes care.

The cabinet is organized across five operational categories: major hemorrhage and trauma management, minor wound and burn care, sprain and strain support, OTC medications for employee self-administration, and tools with PPE. Key trauma capability includes a Blood Stopper Compress, ABD Combine Trauma Pads, Clean Wrap Gauze, and Triangular Bandages, providing a complete hemorrhage control protocol for significant lacerations and puncture wounds. The cabinet is designed for high-population, stationary environments including industrial plants, corporate offices, schools, and distribution centers.

Deployment follows a four-phase protocol: scene assessment and EMS activation, equipment retrieval with PPE donning, direct intervention including pressure dressing application, and transfer of care with full incident documentation. Responders must don vinyl gloves before any patient contact, and the Blood Stopper Compress must never be removed once applied, even if saturated. Reinforcement with an ABD Trauma Pad is the correct escalation if bleed-through occurs.

Readiness sustainment requires monthly cabinet inspections and a post-use review covering inventory levels, expiration dates, sterile item integrity, and cabinet condition. The First-In, First-Out restocking principle governs supply rotation, and all usage must be logged immediately in the door pocket liner. The cabinet weighs over 20 lbs and requires secure mounting to a structural wall element to remain a reliable, field-ready asset.

Field Application Steps

1. CONFIRM SCENE SAFETY: Ensure the hazard, such as a sharp metal edge or active machinery, is secured and presents no further risk to you or the patient before approaching.

2. ACTIVATE EMS: Direct a specific person to call 911, report the nature and severity of the injury, and provide your exact facility location. Do not assume someone else has made the call.

3. CONDUCT INITIAL PATIENT ASSESSMENT: Approach the patient, introduce yourself, and confirm level of consciousness and airway patency. Keep the patient calm and stationary.

4. DON PPE BEFORE ANY PATIENT CONTACT: Proceed to the cabinet and put on a pair of disposable vinyl gloves immediately. This is a non-negotiable step regardless of the injury type.

5. RETRIEVE REQUIRED SUPPLIES: Based on the injury presentation, pull the appropriate items. For significant bleeding, retrieve one Blood Stopper Compress, one ABD Combine Trauma Pad as backup, one roll of 3-inch Clean Wrap Gauze, and the Wire Handle Scissors.

6. EXPOSE THE WOUND: Use the scissors to cut away clothing covering the injury site if necessary. Do not remove any clothing or material that is stuck directly to the wound.

7. APPLY DIRECT PRESSURE: Place the sterile pad of the Blood Stopper Compress directly onto the wound and apply firm, sustained pressure with the palm of your hand. Do not remove this dressing even if it becomes saturated.

8. CREATE A PRESSURE DRESSING: Wrap the attached gauze roll firmly around the injury site to secure the pad in place. The wrap must be snug enough to maintain pressure but must not restrict circulation. If trained, check for pulse or capillary refill in the fingertips.

9. REINFORCE IF BLEED-THROUGH OCCURS: If blood saturates the Blood Stopper Compress, do not remove it. Place the ABD Combine Trauma Pad directly on top of the existing dressing and secure it with the 3-inch Clean Wrap Gauze, then re-apply direct pressure.

10. TREAT FOR SHOCK: Keep the patient warm and reassured until EMS arrives. If no fractures are suspected, position them lying down with legs elevated.

11. TRANSFER CARE TO EMS: When EMS arrives, provide a concise report covering who the patient is, what happened, the injuries you observed, and all treatment you provided.

12. DOCUMENT AND RESTOCK: After the incident, record all supplies used on the cabinet log sheet per facility policy. Initiate restocking of all used items immediately so the cabinet returns to full operational readiness.
