1. CONDUCT HAZARD ASSESSMENT: Before opening the kit, perform a full sensory check of your environment. Identify any smell of gas, rising floodwaters, or sounds of structural instability, and do not use open flames or create sparks if a gas leak is suspected.
2. ESTABLISH A SAFE AREA: Designate the most structurally sound room in the structure as your operating base. Choose a location away from broken windows, visible structural damage, and exterior walls compromised by the storm.
3. DEPLOY ILLUMINATION: Activate the Emergency LED Lantern or the 12-hour Emergency Bright Stick for initial illumination. If a gas leak is possible, use the Bright Stick exclusively, as it produces no flame or spark.
4. DON PPE: Open the kit and immediately put on the Safety Goggles and Leather-Palm Work Gloves. Treat this as your default personal protective posture any time you are moving through the structure or working outside.
5. ADDRESS SHELTER BREACHES: Visually inspect your safe area for roof leaks or broken windows. If breaches are present, deploy the Tarpaulin and secure it using the Metal Hatchet, Nails, and Duct Tape as a temporary weather barrier.
6. ESTABLISH THE FIELD LATRINE: Remove all kit contents from the 5-Gallon Bucket. Insert one Double Doodie Bucket Liner, then snap the Toilet Seat Lid securely onto the bucket rim. Position the station in a ventilated, private location. When the liner reaches capacity, seal it and transfer it to the Infectious-Waste Bag immediately.
7. RATION STORED WATER: Begin consumption of the 4 oz. Water Pouches as your primary hydration source. Limit intake to essential needs and do not waste this supply, as it is finite and your most reliable source at the start of deployment.
8. IDENTIFY AND PURIFY SECONDARY WATER: Identify acceptable secondary water sources such as your home's hot water heater, toilet tanks (not the bowl), or collected rainwater. Do not use floodwater under any circumstances. Process secondary water using the Water Purification Bottle or Purification Tablets and store purified water in the 1-Liter Hydration Bag.
9. RATION THE FOOD BAR: Reserve the 400-Calorie Food Bar for moments when physical exertion is required, such as debris removal. It is a single-serving supplement, not a general meal replacement.
10. DEPLOY PASSIVE SIGNALING: Hang the Bright Orange Help Flag in the most visible location available, such as a front-facing window or roof position. This device attracts ground and air rescue assets without requiring ongoing physical effort from the operator.
11. DEPLOY AUDIBLE SIGNALING: When rescue personnel or aircraft are detected nearby, use the 5-in-1 Survival Whistle. Signal with three short blasts, which is the universal distress signal. A whistle carries significantly farther than a human voice and conserves energy.
12. CONDUCT SUSTAINMENT INSPECTIONS: Every six months, inspect the full kit. Check expiration dates on the food bar and water pouches (5-year shelf life), test the LED Lantern and Flashlight, replace batteries as needed, inspect the bucket and tools for physical damage, and log the inspection date and all corrective actions taken.
