Quick Overview

Kemp USA 2" x 2" Sterile Gauze Pads are single-use sterile dressings used by field operators and first aid responders for minor wound cleaning, light exudate absorption, and aseptic site preparation in individual and facility-level medical kits.

The pads are constructed from 100% cotton with folded inward edges, which prevents fiber fraying and minimizes the risk of leaving lint or thread fragments in the wound bed. This design detail is not cosmetic. It directly reduces the likelihood of foreign body reactions and granuloma formation, which can compromise wound healing and extend recovery time. Their soft texture further reduces mechanical trauma to the wound surface during cleaning and dressing application.

Sterility is conditional on packaging integrity. Each pad is sealed in an individual peel-down pouch that must be inspected before use. If the pouch shows any compromise, including tears, broken seals, or moisture exposure, the pad is no longer suitable for direct wound contact and should be relegated to general cleaning only. The peel-down design supports a no-touch aseptic delivery technique, allowing the pad to drop onto a sterile field or be received by sterile instruments without direct hand contact.

These pads are a foundational supply item for kit replenishment across individual, vehicle, and facility-level deployments. The master case contains 24 dispenser boxes at 100 pads each, totaling 2,400 units, and is intended for logistical hubs and agency supply rooms rather than direct field carry. Monthly kit inspections using FIFO stock rotation and immediate restocking after any operational use are required to maintain mission-ready status.

Field Application Steps

1. CONFIRM SCENE SAFETY AND DON BSI: Verify the environment is safe before making patient contact. Put on non-latex gloves at minimum before handling any wound or sterile supplies.

2. STAGE YOUR SUPPLIES: Lay out all required materials before opening any packaging. You will need sterile gauze pouches, antiseptic or saline solution, medical tape, and a secondary dressing.

3. INSPECT THE POUCH: Before opening, physically examine the individual peel-down pouch for tears, broken seals, or moisture damage. Check the expiration date. If integrity is suspect for any reason, set it aside and pull a fresh pouch.

4. OPEN ASEPTICALLY: Grip the designated peel tabs and pull apart evenly. Do not touch the gauze pad itself. Allow the pad to drop onto a sterile field or receive it with sterile instruments only.

5. APPLY ANTISEPTIC OR SALINE TO THE GAUZE: Saturate the pad liberally with your chosen cleaning agent before making wound contact.

6. CLEAN THE WOUND EDGE TO OUTWARD: Wipe from the wound edge outward, moving debris away from the injury site. Use a single fresh pad per wipe. Do not re-wipe with a used pad.

7. DRY THE PERIWOUND AREA: Pat the skin around the wound dry using a clean pad. Do not wipe across the wound bed itself.

8. PLACE THE DRESSING: Open a fresh sterile pad using the same aseptic technique and place it directly over the wound. This pad serves as the primary absorbent dressing layer.

9. SECURE THE DRESSING: Tape all four sides of the pad or apply a secondary wrap. Confirm the dressing is secure and will not shift, but verify it is not tight enough to impair circulation.

10. DISPOSE AND ADVISE: Place all used materials in a biohazard container. Advise the patient to monitor for signs of infection and to seek higher medical evaluation if those signs develop.

11. RESTOCK YOUR KIT: Immediately notify your supply officer after any operational use. Do not return a depleted kit to service. Replenish from the central supply dispenser box before the kit is redeployed.
