Quick Overview

The Kemp USA CPR Pocket Mask with O2 Inlet is a personal protective barrier device used by CPR-certified personnel to deliver rescue breaths to non-breathing patients while reducing pathogen transmission risk from direct contact with bodily fluids.

The mask is designed for deployment across adult, child, and infant patients requiring ventilatory support. Its transparent dome enables continuous airway monitoring without breaking the seal, while the universal air-filled cuff conforms to varied face contours to maintain an airtight fit. The integrated one-way valve and filter assembly serves as the primary body substance isolation component, blocking patient exhaled air, airborne particles, and bodily fluids from reaching the rescuer.

Effective ventilation depends on proper C-E grip technique, which is the most common point of failure in field deployment. The rescuer forms a "C" with the thumb and index finger to seal the mask dome, while the remaining three fingers form an "E" along the jawline to maintain an open airway. A slow, steady breath delivered over one second with observable chest rise confirms successful ventilation. If chest rise is absent, the protocol requires head repositioning and mask readjustment before assuming device failure.

The O2 inlet port enables supplemental oxygen delivery at 10 to 15 LPM when connected by authorized personnel. The one-way valve is strictly single-patient use and must be disposed of in a biohazard receptacle after any patient contact. Monthly inspection of the case, dome, cuff, valve, and elastic strap is required to maintain field-ready status.

Field Application Steps

1. DON MINIMUM PPE: Put on nitrile gloves before handling the device or contacting the patient. This is the baseline body substance isolation requirement prior to any patient contact.

2. DEPLOY THE DEVICE: Open the red hard case using the snap-latch and visually confirm the one-way valve is fully and securely seated in the mask dome before proceeding.

3. POSITION THE PATIENT: Place the patient supine on a firm, flat surface. Open the airway using the head-tilt/chin-lift technique or jaw-thrust if spinal injury is suspected.

4. APPLY THE MASK: Place the apex of the mask at the bridge of the patient's nose and seat the bottom edge in the groove between the lower lip and chin, covering both the mouth and nose completely.

5. ESTABLISH THE C-E GRIP: Form a "C" with your thumb and index finger pressing down on the mask dome to seal the edges. Place your remaining three fingers along the jawline in an "E" formation and lift the jaw upward to maintain the open airway.

6. DELIVER RESCUE BREATHS: Breathe slowly and steadily through the one-way valve over one second per breath. Watch for visible chest rise to confirm effective ventilation. Deliver one breath every 5 to 6 seconds for an adult patient per BLS guidelines.

7. MONITOR THE AIRWAY CONTINUOUSLY: Observe the patient's mouth and nose through the transparent dome throughout ventilation. Watch for regurgitation, obstruction, or cyanosis without breaking the mask seal.

8. TROUBLESHOOT FAILED CHEST RISE: If no chest rise is observed, reposition the patient's head, readjust the mask seal, and reattempt ventilation before assuming device failure.

9. MANAGE VOMITING: If the patient vomits, roll the patient to clear the airway, remove the obstruction, then resume ventilation once the airway is clear.

10. APPLY ADJUNCT SUPPORT IF APPLICABLE: For two-rescuer operations, slide the elastic head strap over the patient's head to secure the mask and free both hands for airway management. Authorized personnel only: connect oxygen tubing to the O2 inlet port and set flow to 10 to 15 LPM.

11. EXECUTE POST-USE PROTOCOL: After patient contact, treat the entire device as contaminated. Dispose of the one-way valve immediately in a biohazard receptacle. Decontaminate the mask body per agency infectious disease control policy or dispose of the entire unit. Log the use and procure replacement components to restore the kit to ready state.
