Quick Overview

The Kemp USA Deluxe Bi-Fold Litter Stretcher is a purpose-built casualty extraction and transport device used by fire-rescue teams, tactical law enforcement, military medicine, HAZMAT operators, and industrial rescue personnel in high-risk, non-permissive, and hazardous environments.

The stretcher is engineered for environments where standard litters fail. Its fire-resistant Oxford fabric deck is rated to 400°F (204°C), enabling extraction through high-heat conditions where vinyl or canvas surfaces would melt or burn. The high-strength aluminum alloy frame supports a maximum load of 400 lb (181 kg), inclusive of the patient and all attached equipment. Anti-static coating on the frame mitigates static discharge risk, making the stretcher rated for deployment in explosive atmospheres including fuel spills and natural gas environments.

Deployment readiness depends on proper mechanical confirmation before patient loading. The bi-fold hinge mechanism allows the stretcher to fold to a 21-inch storage height for vehicle compartments and mass casualty caches. Locking spreader bars must be physically and audibly confirmed in the locked position prior to placing any patient on the litter. Telescopic adjustment tubes allow frame length modification to ensure full head-to-foot support and prevent cervical hyperextension or unsupported lower extremities.

This litter is a transport device, not an immobilization device, and it has no integrated restraints. Spinal motion restriction must be completed with separate equipment before patient placement. An external restraint system, such as spider straps or purpose-built litter straps, is mandatory, securing the patient at minimum at the chest, pelvis, and mid-femur before any movement begins.

Field Application Steps

1. STAGING AND PREPARATION: Unstow the stretcher from its folded configuration and place it on a stable, flat surface away from immediate hazards. Confirm the storage location is clear and the stretcher is ready for deployment before approaching the casualty.

2. DEPLOYMENT AND SPREADER BAR LOCKING: Unfold the stretcher by pulling both ends apart. Swing each locking spreader bar perpendicular to the main frame rails and push firmly until each bar audibly clicks into the locked position. Visually and physically confirm both bars are fully locked before proceeding.

3. FRAME LENGTH ADJUSTMENT: Visually assess the casualty's height. Engage the telescopic tube release mechanism and extend or retract the frame to ensure full head-to-foot support. Re-engage the lock on the telescopic tubes before patient loading.

4. PATIENT PACKAGING AND LOADING: If spinal injury is suspected, complete full spinal motion restriction using a longboard or cervical collar prior to placement on the litter. Use a 2 or 4-person lift technique, log roll or scoop transfer, to move the casualty onto the center of the fabric deck with minimal patient movement.

5. PATIENT SECURING: Apply an external restraint system. This litter has no integrated restraints and is operationally unsafe without them. Secure the patient at minimum at the chest, pelvis, and mid-femur using spider straps or purpose-built litter straps.

6. EVACUATION AND TRANSPORT: The team leader designates carry positions at the head, foot, and sides, then issues clear verbal commands such as "Team prepare to lift... LIFT." Lift with the legs, keep the litter level throughout movement, and call out obstacles to the team in real time.

7. TRANSFER OF CARE AND POST-MISSION SUSTAINMENT: Transfer the patient to the next care level at the casualty collection point. Clean the stretcher with mild soap and water, disinfect with a 1:10 bleach solution or agency-approved intermediate-level disinfectant, and inspect all frame components, fabric deck, spreader bars, and telescopic tubes for mission-incurred damage. Remove from service if any structural defect is identified, then fold and re-stow in a marked, accessible location.
