Quick Overview

The Kemp USA Folding Stretcher with Wheels is a portable patient transport device used by trained operators to move conscious, non-spinal patients across smooth terrain in field environments including sports facilities, corporate campuses, and event venues.

The stretcher's aluminum frame and Oxford Weave fabric deck provide a lightweight, fluid-resistant patient surface suitable for decontamination after use. The central folding hinge locks into a rigid configuration and must produce a tactile and audible click before any patient is loaded. Two integrated wheels at the head end enable wheelbarrow-style movement on hard, smooth surfaces, requiring two operators to execute transport safely and deliberately.

Patient management capability is supported by an adjustable backrest that raises to Fowler's or semi-Fowler's position, appropriate for conscious patients and those in respiratory distress. No integrated restraint straps are included, which means the operator must assess whether the patient can remain still or apply field-expedient restraints before initiating movement. This device is not a spinal immobilization tool and must not be used for any patient with suspected spinal, pelvic, or neck injury.

Pre-deployment readiness protocol requires inspection of the frame, hinge, fabric deck, wheels, stabilizing legs, and backrest before each use. Post-use sustainment includes decontamination with an approved intermediate-level disinfectant, a mechanical re-inspection for damage, and storage in a folded configuration in a clean, dry, clearly marked location protected from heavier equipment.

Field Application Steps

1. PREPARATION AND STAGING: Bring the folded stretcher adjacent to the patient before unfolding it. Verbally confirm the movement plan with the patient to establish cooperation and consent.

2. STRETCHER UNFOLDING AND HINGE LOCK VERIFICATION: Pull both ends of the stretcher apart until fully extended. Confirm the central hinge is straight and locked by listening and feeling for an audible and tactile click, then apply moderate downward pressure to verify rigidity before loading any patient.

3. STABILIZING LEG DEPLOYMENT: Deploy the two folding stabilizing legs at the foot end of the stretcher. Set the adjustable backrest flat in preparation for patient transfer.

4. PATIENT TRANSFER: Assemble two to three operators and select the appropriate coordinated lift technique, such as a dead-arm lift or sheet drag, based on training and injury type. On a single verbal command, lift the patient and place them centrally on the fabric deck.

5. RESTRAINT ASSESSMENT: Immediately assess whether the patient can remain still throughout transport. If any risk of shifting or falling exists, apply field-expedient restraints before moving, as no integrated restraint straps are included with this device.

6. PATIENT POSITIONING: Assess patient comfort and condition. If appropriate, raise the adjustable backrest to semi-Fowler's position and confirm the backrest support bar is securely seated in its designated slot.

7. WHEELED TRANSPORT EXECUTION: The head-end operator guides and steers while the foot-end operator grips the handles and lifts, pivoting the stretcher's weight onto the two integrated wheels. Proceed at a deliberate pace, maintaining continuous communication between operators, especially on corners or any grade change.

8. TERMINATION OF MOVEMENT: The foot-end operator smoothly lowers their end of the stretcher until the stabilizing legs contact the ground. Transfer the patient to a receiving bed, cot, or chair using another coordinated multi-operator lift.
