Quick Overview

The Kemp USA Mini Ultimate EMS Backpack is a modular, mobile medical response platform used by EMS responders, event medicine personnel, and trained operators who require rapid initial patient stabilization in environments where speed and agility are prioritized over carrying capacity.

The backpack bridges the operational gap between an Individual First Aid Kit and a full-sized service-issue medical bag. Its core organizational system uses color-coded removable pouches that segregate supplies by treatment function, including Massive Hemorrhage, Airway, Breathing, Circulation, and Diagnostics. This modular design allows the operator to remove a single treatment pouch to the point of injury while the main bag remains closed and protected from contamination. The color-coding protocol is user-defined and must be standardized across the entire response team.

The bag is sold empty, which means operational readiness is entirely the responsibility of the operator. High-capacity external pockets are designated for Immediate Action Items such as PPE, trauma shears, a primary tourniquet, and basic diagnostic tools, all accessible without opening the main compartment. Reflective trim provides passive operator visibility during low-light and nighttime deployments. The shoulder strap configuration keeps hands free during ingress through crowds or over uneven terrain.

This platform is not designed for multiple-casualty incidents, prolonged field care, or advanced life support pharmacy roles. Following any deployment involving exposure to bodily fluids, the bag must be taken out of service and decontaminated per organizational bloodborne pathogen protocols before it is considered field-ready again.

Field Application Steps

1. ESTABLISH YOUR LOAD PLAN: Before initial deployment, create a written load plan that specifies which supplies are packed into each color-coded pouch and where each pouch is positioned inside the main compartment. Train every team member on this plan and standardize it across your team.

2. CONDUCT A PRE-MISSION INSPECTION: Before each shift, event, or outing, physically inspect all zippers for smooth operation and check straps and stitching for frays or tears. Confirm all Immediate Action Items are present in external pockets, verify all color-coded pouches are in their designated positions, and spot-check expiration dates on critical supplies including hemostatic agents and medications.

3. APPROACH THE SCENE WITH PACK ON: Don the backpack via shoulder straps during approach to keep both hands free for crowd navigation and obstacle clearance. Use external pockets to access and don PPE while conducting your initial visual assessment on arrival.

4. DEPLOY THE PLATFORM: Position the bag near the patient but outside the immediate treatment field to prevent contamination. Use the top grab handle for final short-distance positioning. Open all main compartment zippers fully to expose the complete array of color-coded pouches.

5. SELECT THE APPROPRIATE TREATMENT MODULE: Based on your patient assessment, identify the primary life threat and locate the corresponding pre-designated pouch. For massive hemorrhage, this is the designated bleeding control pouch, for example, the red pouch containing tourniquets, hemostatic gauze, and pressure dressings.

6. DEPLOY THE MODULE TO THE POINT OF INJURY: Remove the selected pouch completely from the main backpack and bring it to the patient's side. Keep the main backpack closed and protected throughout treatment. If secondary treatment is required, return to the bag and select the next appropriate pouch.

7. STABILIZE AND ACCOUNT FOR ALL EQUIPMENT: Once the patient is stabilized, account for all equipment deployed during the call. Return all pouches to the main backpack in their designated positions and secure all zippers. The bag is non-mission-capable until this step is complete.

8. EXECUTE POST-MISSION RESUPPLY: Immediately after any item is used, restock the bag to its full written load plan. Inventory used items against the load plan and replace them one-for-one. Do not defer resupply to the next mission.

9. DECONTAMINATE IF EXPOSURE OCCURRED: If the bag or any pouch was exposed to bodily fluids or contaminants, remove it from service immediately and decontaminate per your organization's bloodborne pathogen and infection control procedures. Pay particular attention to porous areas that require additional cleaning protocol.

10. CONDUCT QUARTERLY MAINTENANCE: At least once per quarter, completely empty the backpack and all pouches, clean all surfaces of dust and debris, conduct a full inventory, check every item for damage and expiration, and replace any expired or compromised supplies before returning the bag to mission-capable status.
