Quick Overview

The Kemp USA Premium Ultimate EMS Backpack is a high-capacity modular load carriage system used by paramedics, EMTs, tactical medics, and SAR technicians to transport and rapidly deploy a full ALS or BLS medical loadout in critical, high-mobility environments.

The pack is built around a lay-flat main compartment with a full-perimeter zipper that exposes all contents simultaneously upon deployment, enabling immediate visual inventory without digging or searching. Eight removable, color-coded pouches secure via internal hook-and-loop panels and segregate supplies by treatment protocol, including Airway, Bleeding, IV, and Pediatric. Individual pouches can be detached and handed off to team members, allowing simultaneous multi-patient treatment from a single bag without requiring a second unit on scene.

The load carriage system is designed for operator mobility in technically demanding environments. Padded shoulder straps, a sternum strap, and a waist belt distribute weight across the hips and torso. The backpack suspension maintains three points of contact capability on stairs, ladders, and uneven terrain, providing a critical safety advantage over duffel-style bags in confined or vertical access scenarios.

The chassis construction uses 1680 denier nylon for abrasion and puncture resistance, a non-porous vinyl bottom with molded feet for protection against ground-level fluids and abrasive surfaces, and nickel metal hardware throughout. A padded 16-by-11-inch sleeve accommodates ePCR tablets and diagnostic equipment. MOLLE webbing on the lower front pocket supports direct mounting of high-priority tools for immediate, one-handed access.

Field Application Steps

1. DON AND ADJUST THE PACK: Secure the waist belt first to settle the load onto the hips, then adjust the shoulder straps and sternum strap for a snug, stable fit. Proper sequencing distributes weight correctly and reduces operator fatigue during approach.

2. IDENTIFY AND STAGE YOUR CASUALTY COLLECTION POINT: Proceed to the incident and identify a relatively clean, secure, and illuminated area to stage medical equipment. Scene selection protects your loadout from contamination and gives your team a reliable central supply point.

3. DEPLOY THE MAIN COMPARTMENT: Place the pack on the ground vinyl-side down. Open the main compartment completely via the full-perimeter zipper, laying it fully flat to expose all modules simultaneously.

4. ORIENT YOUR TEAM TO MODULE LOCATIONS: Verbally identify pouch locations to all responders before treatment begins. Use clear callouts such as "Airway is top left, IV is bottom right" to synchronize team awareness and reduce time-to-treatment under stress.

5. DETACH AND ASSIGN MODULAR POUCHES: Detach the required color-coded pouches and hand them off to the appropriate responders by patient assignment. This enables simultaneous multi-patient treatment from a single deployed bag without requiring additional equipment.

6. MANAGE THE OXYGEN CYLINDER: Open the oxygen cylinder valve before removing the D-cylinder from its retention straps. Ensure the cylinder is properly resecured in the two adjustable straps before any transport or movement to prevent shifting and projectile risk.

7. USE THE PACK BODY AS A CENTRAL SUPPLY POINT: Stage the open, deployed pack as the primary supply hub for the treatment area. Side compartments allow access to diagnostic tools and PPE without disturbing the main compartment layout.

8. PREPARE FOR SCENE DEPARTURE: Account for all 8 modular pouches and return each to its designated hook-and-loop position inside the pack. Secure the oxygen cylinder in its retention straps, zip all compartments, and conduct a final visual inspection before donning the pack for extraction.

9. CONDUCT PRE-SHIFT INSPECTION BEFORE EVERY DEPLOYMENT: Visually inspect all seams, straps, handles, zippers, and buckles for function and integrity. Confirm all 8 pouches are present in their standardized positions, conduct a full inventory against your agency checklist, check expiration dates on all dated items, and verify oxygen cylinder pressure.

10. DECONTAMINATE AFTER EVERY EXPOSURE EVENT: Following contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials, clean all affected areas using an approved virucidal and bactericidal agent per department BSI protocols. Pay close attention to porous surfaces including webbing and zipper tracks, and air dry the pack completely before restocking and returning it to service.
