Quick Overview

The MayDay Deluxe Privacy and Shower Room is a rapid-deployment single-person enclosure used by field operators, emergency responders, and preparedness-minded individuals to establish a private hygiene, sanitation, or changing station in environments where privacy infrastructure does not exist.

The shelter deploys as a non-load-bearing visual barrier constructed from a 190D nylon fabric shell supported by two G3 shock-corded fiberglass poles. It is designed for approved field applications including use as a latrine privacy station, a field showering or decontamination point, a changing room, and a temporary shield for sensitive equipment against blowing sand or light precipitation. It is not rated for personnel shelter, sleeping, or deployment in winds exceeding 15 MPH. Operators must assess conditions before deployment to confirm the site is appropriate for this capability.

Proper anchoring is the most critical step in the deployment protocol. Ground stakes must be driven through each of the four base corner webbing loops at a 45-degree angle, and guylines must be extended from the upper shell at a 45-degree angle and tensioned without deforming the frame. An unsecured unit in unexpected wind becomes a dangerous projectile. Site selection should prioritize level ground, natural windbreaks, and a minimum distance of 200 feet from any water source, trail, or food preparation area.

Post-deployment readiness requires a thorough inspection of the fabric shell, fiberglass poles, shock cord, stakes, and guylines after every use. The shelter must be 100 percent dry before packing to prevent mildew and hydrolysis. Field repairs for fabric tears can be made with gear repair tape, and cracked pole sections can be temporarily splinted with a repair sleeve and duct tape until replacement components are sourced.

Field Application Steps

1. SITE SELECTION: Choose a site at least 200 feet, approximately 70 paces, from any water source, trail, or food preparation area. Prioritize level ground with natural windbreaks such as trees or rock outcroppings, and clear the area of sharp debris before proceeding.

2. COMPONENT LAYOUT: Remove all components from the tote bag and lay the fabric shell flat on the selected site. Assemble the two G3 fiberglass shock-corded poles and verify that every segment is fully seated before moving to frame erection.

3. FRAME ASSEMBLY AND ERECTION: Insert the pole ends into the corresponding grommets or pockets at the shelter's base corners. Flex each pole into an arch, attaching the fabric shell clips to the pole as you go. Once both poles are secured, the shelter will stand freestanding.

4. ANCHORING CORNER STAKES: Drive a ground stake through the webbing loop at each of the four base corners at a 45-degree angle directed away from the shelter. This step is critical. An unstaked shelter is a collapse and projectile risk in any wind event.

5. ATTACHING AND TENSIONING GUYLINES: Attach guylines to the designated points on the upper half of the fabric shell. Extend each guyline outward at a 45-degree angle and stake it into the ground. Adjust tension until lines are taut but not pulling hard enough to deform the shelter's shape.

6. CLEAR AND CLEAN BEFORE BREAKDOWN: Before disassembly, ensure the shelter interior is completely clear of all equipment and waste. Brush out any dirt or debris from the floor and interior surfaces.

7. DISASSEMBLY SEQUENCE: Remove guyline stakes first, then corner stakes. Unclip the fabric shell from the poles, remove the poles from the grommets, then disassemble the poles by segment to prevent stress on the shock cord.

8. FOLDING, DRYING, AND PACKING: Fold the fabric shell neatly. If the shell is wet, allow it to dry completely before packing to prevent mildew. Return all components to the tote bag and conduct a full inventory to confirm that all poles, stakes, guylines, and fabric components are present before closing out.
