Quick Overview

The Mayday Sustain Supply Comfort Kit is a self-contained 2-person emergency survival system designed to sustain two individuals for 72 hours during disaster evacuation, providing hydration, nutrition, shelter, light, signaling, and first aid capability in a single 21-pound go-bag.

The kit's hydration and nutrition architecture requires deliberate rationing from the moment of deployment. The four included AquaLiters provide only 0.67 liters per person per day, which falls below minimum survival thresholds, making the two Survival Filter Straws a required operational component rather than a backup. The 2400-calorie food bar divides into six 400-calorie portions, one per person per day, and four Emergency Meal Kit pouches provide hot-meal capability when heated water is available via the included wood stove and fire-starting system.

Shelter and signaling readiness is built around Mylar emergency blankets, which provide passive thermal retention and rudimentary windbreak capability, though they are not waterproof and offer no protection from ground conduction. The lantern, four lightsticks, and two high-decibel whistles form the light and signaling protocol, with three sharp whistle blasts serving as the universal distress signal. Operators should deploy the lantern at dusk and conserve lightstick resources for movement in darkness.

The 107-piece first aid kit addresses minor injuries including cuts, blisters, and abrasions, but carries a critical scope limitation: it contains no equipment for life-threatening hemorrhage, airway compromise, or major orthopedic trauma. The kit is a baseline survival platform, not a comprehensive medical system, and users are advised to augment with prescription medications, personal documentation, a tarp, cordage, and a local map and compass.

Field Application Steps

1. SECURE AND CONFIRM KIT INTEGRITY: Confirm the backpack is fully closed and all components are accounted for. Don one whistle around your neck before departing.

2. EXECUTE EGRESS: Move immediately to your pre-determined rally point or away from the hazard zone. Follow your evacuation plan and do not delay departure to gather non-essential items.

3. SELECT AND ESTABLISH A SHELTER SITE: Once clear of the primary hazard, identify a site that offers natural protection from wind. Avoid low ground, drainage paths, and exposed ridgelines.

4. DEPLOY EMERGENCY BLANKETS: Wrap one Mylar emergency blanket around each person to maximize thermal retention. If wind conditions require, configure one blanket as a windbreak, but prioritize wearing them over any other configuration.

5. INITIATE WATER RATIONING: Open one AquaLiter and share it between both persons. Immediately identify a secondary, non-saline water source in the surrounding area for filtration use.

6. RATION FOOD STORES: Issue one 400-calorie block per person from the 2400-calorie food bar. Do not consume more than the daily allotment. The entire bar contains six portions across the 72-hour window.

7. OPERATE THE WOOD STOVE FOR HOT MEALS: Gather dry twigs and biomass from the surrounding area. Assemble the wood stove on bare dirt or rock, well clear of flammable materials. Ignite the Insta-Fire starter using the spine of the Mora Carbon Knife struck against the ferrocerium rod. Heat water in the cookware for the Emergency Meal Kit pouches. Never leave the fire unattended.

8. PURIFY SUPPLEMENTAL WATER: When a secondary water source is located, use the Survival Filter Straws to filter lake, river, or stream water. Do not attempt to use the straws on saline or saltwater sources, as they are not desalinators.

9. EXECUTE LIGHT AND SIGNALING DISCIPLINE: At dusk, deploy the lantern with its three AA batteries for area illumination. If movement in darkness is required, activate one lightstick and conserve the remaining three. Keep both whistles accessible at all times for emergency distress signaling.

10. EXTINGUISH AND POLICE THE FIRE SITE: Before departing any camp location, fully extinguish the wood stove fire using water or soil. Confirm no embers remain active before moving.

11. CONDUCT SEMI-ANNUAL READINESS INSPECTIONS: Every six months, lay out all components and verify against the master contents list. Check expiration dates on the food bar, meal pouches, and AquaLiters. Test the lantern with fresh batteries, store batteries outside the device to prevent corrosion, and inspect all sealed packaging for punctures or damage. Repack with high-priority items, including first aid, water, and light, in the most accessible positions.
