Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications Trauma/Oxygen (T/O) Bag is a single integrated carry system designed for ALS and BLS medical personnel to deploy airway, breathing, and circulation interventions alongside a standard 'D' oxygen cylinder in a single rapidly deployable unit.

The T/O Bag consolidates oxygen transport and trauma supply storage into one field-ready platform. The main center compartment is sized to house a 'D' cylinder with regulator attached, while an A.B.S. molded plastic tray cradles the cylinder base to prevent longitudinal and lateral shift, protecting the valve stem and regulator during transport. Reinforced sidewalls provide additional impact resistance for the oxygen delivery system during vehicle operations and on-scene movement.

Trauma and airway supply organization is built into the bag's architecture to support rapid clinical deployment. Internal elastic airway loops secure OPAs, NPAs, and laryngoscope equipment for immediate access, while full-length side pockets with nylon mesh dividers separate hemorrhage control supplies from IV administration kits. Clear-flap pouches allow visual identification of medications and catheters without opening additional compartments, reducing time-to-intervention at the patient's side.

Operator mobility is addressed through a purpose-built carry system suited to the environments EMS professionals actually work in. A removable shoulder strap enables hands-free transport up stairwells and across rough terrain, while reinforced carry handles cover short-distance movement from apparatus to door. The vinyl-coated nylon bottom provides a fluid-resistant barrier when the bag is placed on wet or contaminated surfaces during active patient care.

Field Application Steps

1. SECURE THE OXYGEN CYLINDER: Open the main center compartment and seat the base of a 'D' oxygen cylinder firmly into the A.B.S. molded plastic tray. Confirm the regulator is attached and the cylinder is oriented so the control valve and pressure gauge are accessible.

2. LOAD AIRWAY SUPPLIES: Organize OPAs, NPAs, and intubation equipment into the internal elastic airway loops. Verify correct sizing and confirm each item is seated securely before proceeding.

3. LOAD TRAUMA SUPPLIES: Pack the full-length side pockets using nylon mesh dividers to separate hemorrhage control supplies, including tourniquets and pressure dressings, from IV equipment and fluids. Position highest-priority items for first access.

4. STAGE EXTERNAL ITEMS: If protocol requires, secure a cervical collar or splint to the full-length external elastic strip to preserve internal compartment volume.

5. CLOSE AND CONFIGURE FOR CARRY: Zip all compartments closed. Attach the removable shoulder strap if a stairwell approach or extended carry is anticipated, as the deployment scenario requires hands-free mobility.

6. SELECT CARRY METHOD ON SCENE: Use the shoulder strap for stairs or long approaches. Use the main reinforced carry handles for short-distance movement from the vehicle to the entry point.

7. POSITION THE BAG PATIENT-SIDE: Place the bag on a stable surface near the patient's head and torso. On wet or contaminated surfaces, ensure the vinyl-coated nylon bottom faces down.

8. INITIATE CLINICAL INTERVENTIONS: For oxygen delivery, open the cylinder valve, confirm pressure, and attach the appropriate delivery device such as a non-rebreather mask or BVM. Concurrently access side pockets for hemorrhage control, wound care, or IV supplies based on patient assessment.

9. DEACTIVATE OXYGEN POST-INCIDENT: Turn off the cylinder valve and bleed the regulator completely before moving the bag for transport.

10. CONDUCT EQUIPMENT ACCOUNTABILITY: Perform a rapid inventory of all compartments. Secure any loose items before closing the bag.

11. SECURE FOR TRANSPORT: Close all zippers. Use the Quick-Lift handle or main carry handles to return the bag to the apparatus.

12. RESTOCK AND DECONTAMINATE: Immediately restock the bag to its full inventory loadout upon return to station. If the bag was exposed to body fluids or a contaminated environment, remove it from service and complete full decontamination per agency protocol before restocking.
