Field Application Steps

1. ESTABLISH STANDARD LOADOUT: Designate a standardized loadout for the bag based on its assigned mission, such as Extrication Bag or Cribbing Bag, before loading any equipment. Every operator assigned to that apparatus must know the loadout by name and contents.

2. SET CENTER OF GRAVITY: Place the heaviest item, such as a hydraulic pump or power unit, in the bottom center of the main compartment. Centering the weight maintains balance during transport and reduces operator strain.

3. ARRANGE SECONDARY ITEMS: Pack remaining tools and hoses around the primary item to minimize shifting during carry. Use tool rolls or pouches for smaller items to maintain internal organization and prevent damage.

4. LOAD EXTERNAL POCKETS: Stage high-frequency access items including spare batteries, window punches, and cribbing wedges in the three external pockets. This eliminates the need to open the main compartment for minor items during active operations.

5. SECURE AND STAGE: Close the main compartment zipper completely and stage the bag in its designated apparatus compartment for immediate, unobstructed access on dispatch.

6. ASSESS LOAD BEFORE LIFTING: Verbally confirm the weight and balance of the bag before lifting. For any load exceeding 50 lbs or on uneven terrain, call for a two-person carry with each operator taking one side of the web handles.

7. CARRY TO STAGING AREA: Use proper lifting mechanics, lifting with the legs and not the back, while grasping both web handles firmly. Carry to the designated tool staging area, typically on a salvage tarp adjacent to the operational zone, and avoid placing the bag in traffic areas or on unstable surfaces.

8. ORIENT AND OPEN FOR ACCESS: At the point of use, orient the bag so the main zipper and external pockets face the operators. Unzip the main compartment completely to allow full, unimpeded access to all contents.

9. DEPLOY TOOLS WITH ACCOUNTABILITY: Remove tools as needed during operations. Do not throw tools back into the bag during the incident. Place used tools in the designated staging area to maintain accountability for recovery.

10. CONDUCT TOOL ACCOUNTABILITY BEFORE REPACK: At incident conclusion, account for every tool from the bag's standard loadout before repacking. No exceptions.

11. FIELD CLEAN BEFORE REPACKING: Remove gross debris from tools and the bag's interior before repacking. If the bag was exposed to biohazards or chemical contaminants, remove it from service immediately and initiate formal decontamination per department policy.

12. REPACK AND RETURN TO SERVICE: Repack the bag according to the established load plan from Phase 1. Secure the bag in its apparatus compartment and formally report it as Ready for Service.
